Is it possible for an Indian to not know SRK?

I went to Rajasthan for some research work. There I met a woman who claims she does not know SRK. She was born in India 20 years ago and lived in India all her life. I am not a fan of SRK. But it seems everybody in India knows him even cats and dogs.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if 30% of Indian population didn't know him.. because there's 15,000+ villages in India that aren't connected and do not have electricity. And even if connected or electrified, there wouldn't be people that have exposure to BW(language barrier, lifestyle, interests etc)

My paternal grandparents, my great grandparents while alive didn't know him :p ..and likewise, I know of some that I come into contact in daily life that don't know him...

If they don't know SRK, then the next question would be - do they know Aamir, Salman etc? Do they know films and television? Do have electricity, television and latest programming? I suspect many Indians would not know SRK because of lack of technology to stay connected with the modern world.

More than possible. 😆 People in the interior of the country, cut off from technology, popular culture... very likely you'll find people who won't know many of the actors.

Am from South India, here many people not just villagers but also few people in small towns do not recognize bolly stars in general but are very much familiar with the stars of the regional films. Regional film stars have hugee fanbases particularly Tamil nadu and Telugu film industry.

I have a friend who grew up in India, now in mid - 40s and lives in the US but travels to India frequently for work. Anyway, he once was on a flight with SRK and did not recognize him. He had an extended conversation with SRK who seemed intrigued by the fact he had to tell him who he was and suggested they take a picture together. My friend swears that he recognized the name but did not recognize the man and had to be reminded why he knew the name (his first thought was business). I believe him - he is not a BW kind of guy - and I don't think he'd have a reason to lie about it. He's not someone who'd need to make up a story about why he has a selfie with a BW star but doesn't really care about BW LOL.
