I don't mind the Urdu... However, the song and the vid just do not match.. The song is beautiful to the ears, not so much for the eyes.. Even more so because DP looks like uska dum ghut raha hai under all the jewelry

And if 100% authenticity is what you want, then the dialogues should not be spoken in standardised registers of Hindi and Urdu 😆 The people of Rajasthan in the 13th century would've spoken in some ancestral form of modern Rajasthani language, and Khilji would've spoken in Turkish/Farsi, since he was a Persianised Turk, and Persian was the official language of the court.

So when the audience turns up to watch the movie, no-one will have a f**king clue what they're saying. 😆

We did not watch Mahabharata (or any mythological serials) in Sanskrit. It was either in our native language or Hindi. But some Sanskrit words were thrown in for the effect (or call it authenticity) 😆.

(I am not considering the plays which were in English). I find it difficult to imagine, if Krishna were to preach Bhagavadgita to Arjuna in Urdu (unless it was a play in Urdu).

If Bhansali wanted to create an authenticity, he should have thrown in some typical Rajasthani words here and there for the effect. Also, he could have used Rajasthani folk music.

Hystorically, Hindi got mixed up with Persian invader's language and we got a hybrid product, Urdu. It is definitely an Indian language now. But in Khilji era, Royals who are fighting the invaders are singing the song in a language which resembled invader's language than themselves is absurd. Hindi with a light Rajasthani touch would have been a better thing (than Hindi with Urdu).

If he calls it creative liberty, fine. But then, there is no need to use big words such as "research", "authentic look" etc.

But t thought the song was hailed as accurate in rajput dancing and culture and how slb was praised for doing his research etc...how every nook and corner of the trailer and poster was full of symbolism and accuracy 😲 i am confused now .

How do you know Rajasthani words have not been thrown in? He has used Gujarati in Ram Leela, Marathi in Bajirao Mastani, so what makes you think he won't throw in Rajasthani words into dialogues? Why not just wait until the movie has been released? 😆

Honestly though , how does " throwing in words" bring historical accuracy ? 😆

This whole argument concerning historical accuracy is

ridiculous to begin with .. Art can never be historically accurate .. Creative liberties will always be taken by the artists as each artist has his/her own unique creativity/ vision .. If Padmavati was made even in the 15th century , the artists back then would have taken their own creative liberties .. That's how art works IMO & that's what makes art so special/intriguing/ worth watching .. In SLB's vision , you ll get to see these rich picturesque scenes , I doubt if things were that picture perfect back then , but that's what SLB wants to show & that's what SLB's audience looks forward to seeing in his movies ..

There are many religious mythological shows on TV these days & the creative liberties taken there are nothing short of blasphemy ..Aur Padmavati is toh based on a fictional poem .. Whatever accuracy or authenticity ( or lack of it ) one finds in this movie is going to be SLB' s version of accuracy/authenticity .. As long as SLB doesn't go overboard with his creative liberties ( as opposed to some of those mytho shows on TV ) , I am fine with it ..😆

@Heisenberg17. I suppose, he would have used Rajasthani. I will wait. Meanwhile, I will comment on whatever I have seen so far too. I don't find it wrong.

@Provoking. I don't dispute about creative liberties. I don't know, what dresses were worn before (even during mythological shows). I am fine with Bhansali's vision. But there is a difference between creativity and absurdity. If Khilji were to mouth the dialogues to Rathan in shuddh Hindi, that also would have looked strange.
