Akshay called up Abhishek and said that he's extremely upset with the way Russell commented on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Actor Akshay Kumar apparently personally called up actor Abhishek Bachchan to apologise for the comments made on his wife, actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan by Canada-based stand-up comedian Russell Peters during the promotion of his recent Indo-Canadian film.
"Akshay called up Abhishek and said that he's extremely upset with the way Russell commented on Aishwarya. He said that he had no control over what Russell was going to say. Akshay sounded distressed over the occurrence, says a source, who adds that the actor has vowed to not work with the Canadian stand-up comedian ever again or even play host to him in Mumbai.
Though the immediate reactions of Aishwarya were yet to come, it appears that Abhishek was in a mood to forgive. "Akshay is a dear friend. He had nothing to do with what Russell said, and he should not be apologising for a remark from an actor of his production. The derogatory comments were made by Russell, who should ideally be the one to say sorry, Abhishek was quoted by one of his staff members when contacted.
Sources say that there is no misunderstanding between Abhi-Ash and Akshay, and are planning to meet informally for another happy occasion'.
Meanwhile, sources say that a formal apology was apparently being drafted by Ajay Virmani, a co-producer who also incidentally happens to be the father of the lead actor in the film, Vinay. Ajay has been a host to Aishwarya in Toronto in the past.
"I didn't have any control over what Russell says, and what he said is not reflective of our opinion or what the film is all about. Aishwarya is a fantastic actress and a legend. I apologise for his comments, said Ajay in a statement.
Russell Peters irks Bachchans with disgraceful remarks on Aishwarya!
India's hottest stand-up comedy stars Standup Comedian Russell Peters, who's half Indian and half Canadian, seems to have irked the Bachchan family with his mindless and disgruntling comments on their bahu Aishwarya, suggest some B -Town insiders. Peters, who is in Mumbai to promote his film Speedy Singhs,' took a dig at the Bachchan bahu recently and said, "She hasn't become a better actor. She is still good looking, isn't that good enough? When the topic shifted to her pregnancy, he joked, "Oh good job Abhishek, you finally knocked her up!
Elaborating on the same, a B -Town insider said, "It seems Peters has a personal vendetta against Aishwarya because he has disgraced the actress and the entire Bollywood fraternity umpteen times by calling it a piece of sh**'.
Sadly, Speedy Singhs is Akshay Kumar's home production and it should've been the actor's duty to have refrained Russell Peters from passing such a below the belt comment at his film's press conference in Mumbai.
"Akshay should ask Russell to take back his words or issue an corrigendum on his behalf, since the Bachchans have always had high regards for him (Akshay), added another source.
Disgraceful comments on Aishwarya and Bollywood in totality, have caused incensed reactions from NGOs and political parties, who hold cine unions in Mumbai.
"Bollywood is a vast industry, whuch churns out more films than anyone else in the world and he (Russell) has no right to talk ugly or disgrace our industry or its actors. His comment on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is indeed in a bad taste, but I think his irrelevant comment should not deter or affect an actress of her caliber, said Shalini Thackeray, MNS cine-worker's union president.
A leader from Shiv Sena, on basis anonymity said, "Who is this Russell Peters and why should we entertain him? I think he should be banned
