Hey, first of all appreciate you for addressing my concern...:)

@Blue: Not to everyone apparently and I and my family are a clear example of this though we live in USA...Same with my family in India and elsewhere as none of them knew that such a girl existed...I came to know for the first time when I read your review in which you mentioned Bombshell Bandit and then I went ahead and did my research... The girl is still living and very much in the beginning of her life and a coverage at this level could really impact her life in a bad way...

Did they take permission from the girl to do this and if they did not, is it even allowed?😕

You are welcome :)

Any story that makes it way to the public domain can be used for inspiration. They made some minor changes to the story like the background of the protagonist, the romantic interest, the very tumultuous relationship with the father, the climax etc. to technically call it fiction. It is, hence, allowed.

For e.g. Not many people knew about the Nanawati case in India until Akshay made RUSTOM on it.

The girl in question is now a felon and was an adult at the time of doing the crime so her identity has never been held from the world. In fact, CCTV footage/pictures of her are all over the web.The damage is done.

Unfortunate story of her life but it's so bizzare that it's intriguing. She is still serving her sentence.

I hope you watch the movie, now that you have followed the true story, you'd like it ;)

"Megastar" Kangana?
Only in her dreams 😆

And oh please, don't even compare this woman with Sridevi of all people. Sridevi was and is one of the finest superstars of BW. None like her. Kangana on the other hand is so damn overrated. Her dialogue delivery is pathetic. Yes, I agree Queen and TWM were good, but that's about it.

Chalo...couple of months break before her crazy self starts this nonsense all over again.

I really wanted to like SIMRAN after QUEEN... As everyone already knows, Queen's strength was that while it had a good story/screenplay, Kangana's acting took the movie to a whole different high, but in the case of Simran, I felt Kangana was great but the story/screenplay really brought the movie down to an average fare at best... really disappointing considering the potential this movie had!
(Contains spoilers):

The Bombshell Bandit story is definitely fascinating - the BBC article on Sundeep Kaur had enough content that could have been used to make a tight, dark thriller screenplay. I understand that Apurva/Hansal/Kangana wanted to make it 'lighter' but it became so light that her robberies just became implausible / cartoon-ish... like no CCTV in the parking lot of the banks? She's using the same green Toyota Camry to rob, come back and rob again? I understand the Sundeep Kaur case was similar but this movie made it look like anyone can rob a bank 😕 A little practicality could have made the whole second half more believable. The whole Bugs / money lender thing was handled even worse, I doubt a money lender would be SO lenient.

Contrary to the popular opinion, I liked the (well, one-sided probably) romance with Sohum Shah - he seemed like an overall nice guy who was clearly taken in with Praf's personality, to even give her that kind of money! It didn't really add anything to the plot but I didn't mind it cause it gave Kangana a chance to do something lighter in the movie.

Coming to the piece de resistance, Kangana carries this movie on her own shoulders well. Her constant khit pit with her father, back and forth with her mother, sweetness with her Nani, and her impulsiveness with gambling all her savings overnight - even though I'm a guy, I could relate to Kangana's problems because they are universal. I've lived with my family in the US and India and I finally enjoyed a more realistic portrayal of the NRI-life for middle-class Indians like us, who might be living far from their homes in India but still look, feel and act like they are sitting in those homes. Clearly Kangana did a great job with her acting, I wish the screenplay/story was better such that Simran could have been another Queen.

People who didn't even know her (like me) now know her...I googled her and found even her picture online which wouldn't have been the case had this movie not been made...What is the director thinking of achieving by putting the story of a young girl on the celluloid and making her popular for all the wrong reasons?

in the end of the movie they mention she was paid 50000 dollars for the script.

No...that was meant for Praful. 😆 Not Sandeep kaur.

This isn't a biopic but inspired from real life events.

I watched Simran and boy it was disappointing. (Spoilers)
The beginning portions were witty, I liked the romantic bits with the guy.
For me it was just too much of the lead actress. She was a hit and miss for me in this movie. She was in every frame, every punchline of the movie was by her. The side characters were not fully developed. Like I dont think there is a frame in the movie without her and that just got tedious IMO.The character had no remorse. I had no empathy for the characters. Either the desperation was not made clear or was just not there, I cant tell. It looked like she was doing it for fun.
I was actually waiting for her to get caught, and wondering what is taking the police so long. The police investigation was again was another absurd series of sequences.
The loan shark portions are hilarious. If only they were that lenient. Wow shes robbing a bank (which came out of nowhere btw) so why dont we leave her alone so she can rob another bank and give us the money, not like she has given us the money from previous robbery but you know.. shes the lead of the movie so why not
The robbing of the banks were done in a such a farce way. There are waaay too many loopholes in the script that even good acting cannot cover.
The movie is said to inspired from true event, so I dont know how much of creative liberty has been taken but this was blah. My friend and I were discussing about how we should shift to this said state where bank robbery looks easier than shoplifting.

Question: So she took the guy's $50k? cos i dont remember if she ever gave it back to him
