Actors, imo. I have seen many a mediocre movie/tv show where the chemistry between the leads elevates the entire thing. And from some shows I watch, after seeing the amazing chemistry the actors have, the writers start writing keeping that in mind. They create new couples that way too.

But I don't buy into the theory that only actors who are uncomfortable with each other create great chemistry. It's not quite explainable what makes certain pairs sizzle on screen. Most of the insiders like the writers, directors and actors don't seem to know either. 😆

Yes! Aamir and Kajol in Fanaa is another good example.

I think its the actors more than the director's execution, I have seen bd films where the lead pair had great chemistry, and also good films where lead pair has zero chemistry.

For example- In Rockstar even though the film is a hit, i thought Rk and nargis had zero chemistry, it surprised me that this movie was a successful one.

In Raanjhana usually one would assume that Dhanush and sonam would not have chemistry since the way they look individually, but i think that was one of the best lead pair in recent times, the chemistry was raw and intense which sonam never had with her other co-stars.

In Bang bang also the writing is so poor but Hrithik-Katrina sizzles with their fabulous chemistry and sails through, the writing hardly helps their chemistry anyways and same goes for Hrithik-Aish in Dhoom2.

One of my favorite pairs are Aamir-Madz in Dil, I think their chemistry was so eccentric which was helped by their good looks too otherwise the movie is cliched and routined.

apart from the actors,the directors and the screenplay writers too play a role in creating onscreen chemistry...

Majority of actors who have had iconic chemistry use to hate each other, so chemistry is all about both actors doing thier part well .. e.g in a sensous scene if one actor has to behave sensous than the other has to blush .. if one of the both doesnt do his/her part well the chemistry falls flat .. so two good actors can create amazing chemistry .. also i feel physcial compantaiblity also contributes to chemsitry .. e.g height difference and all ..
