After vandalism, strike hits Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati'

After incessant delays plagued Padmavati in the first three months of going on floors, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing everything in his capacity to wrap up his Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor starrer by October. However, trouble continues to plague the period drama the ongoing Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) strike is threatening to play havoc with the film's schedule.

As the community of cine workers is amassing support from all quarters, the number of technicians showing up on the set of Padmavati has reduced.

"The crew was clocking in almost 18 hours' work every day to make sure the film keeps its release date. But, the protests have slowed down the film's shoot," informs a source, adding, "Now, the team is barely able to shoot for eight to 10 hours a day due to reduced staff strength."

After the mob attack in Jaipur and the vandalism incident in Kolhapur, the filmmaker cannot afford another setback. "The production house has given Bhansali a final word that he cannot overstep the deadline, due to monetary constraints. If the technicians do not get to work soon, Padmavati will be adversely affected," adds the source.

One wonders if the film will be able to keep its release date of November 18. "Another 15 days of this schedule and Bhansali will miss the release date. Only a miracle can make him release the movie on that day then," adds the source.

The strike is now being supported by Saroj Khan, Sham Kaushal and Binod Pradhan. The demand for medical insurance and eight-hour shifts is striking a chord with all and sundry. Though few members of FWICE are on an indefinite hunger strike, some officials met up with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday to discuss the matter.

Also, I am amazed to know workers don't enjoy these basic human rights in one of the biggest industries of entertainment world. Who works for 16 hours? that's inhuman but then what better could be expected from SLB.
