Who is to be blamed? The director or the public who doesn't put much thought about someone else hard work as long as they get some entertainment and then the same people go out and blame the system for xyz problems when they are part of the very system.

Most art forms are derivation from getting inspired from somewhere but this is BLATANT copy.
You just don't go around copy pasting stuff.

So it seems like there are even more copy & paste scenes 😆 not surprised at all by Basu.
No wonder he took that long. Who knows how many movies he needed to watch to get "inspired"
Not easy to pick the right scenes and why creative something on your own when there are so many movies which indian audience never watch. 👏

Let's do this thorough analysis of all the films .. each and every scene of every film. I am sure even Hirani's films would have something common/copy/inspirational from at least a couple of films. Heck most the Indian films are complete/partial copies of each other.
I loved Barfi and now JJ too .. and considering that I'd not watched any of the Bengali films or read the Tintin comics, JJ was pure entertainment for me. The only place it lacked was a few instances where Ranbir didn't act well, same goes for Katrina. Otherwise, the film was beautifully shot and the story was alright-ish too.

Ofcourse... All kissing scenes, proposal scenes, argument scenes, random chase sequences i.e...normal scenes are the same for all movies... We dont go around shouting copycat copycat for them..

But once in a while, a director comes up with a scene so visually striking and entertaining, the audience has to sit straight and watch it with complete attention...When you lift so many such scenes for your film, the plagiarism becomes more jarring and obvious.

I have watched very few HW movies in comparison to BW movies in my life. So the first time I watched Barfi I was utterly enthralled and entertained by the comedy and chase sequences. I was full of admiration of Basu's ingenuity...And then i found out that literally ALL of the stand out moment from that film is copied from HW classics..🥱...

Its still a good movie for sure... but Anurag deserves absolutely no props IMO.

Entire BW movies are copied from Hollywood, scene by scene. Why still such a hue and cry only abt Jagga Jasoos?
The movie flopped so give it a rest already 🥱

This writer seems to have woken up late, I had already mentioned half of these inspirations in my review 😆
He seems to have missed out on Pure Luck though. I guess he has watched Monk but has no idea abt Pure Luck...which is a HW comedy classic from 1991

Countless BW movies are copied from HW every year since a long time...some of those are considered BW classics and people do Oooh Aaah abt those movies here because they star some actors who are considered mega successful actors right now 😉

He took 3 yrs to remember which scene he envisioned after watching which movie. Makes perfect sense sometimes we hum a song but cannot remember what song it is and it kills the entire day, Basu has to make entire movie, must take time to remember all the references 😆

That's why it takes 4-5 years to make a movie for basu. After all watching 20 international movies finding best scenes then do copy and paste takes time

Basu is chaalu. Instead of copying from a single movie, he takes 20 something movies and then INSPIRES from them to make a single one. Makes him a bigger copycat than those who do remakes of hw movies.
