Kangana Ranaut will play an 80-year-old in her directorial debut, Teju
Kangana Ranaut will make her directorial debut with the unconventional film, Teju, which will see her play an 80-year-old woman.
If you have not been living under a rock, you know about Kangana ranaut's desire to don the director's hat. The actor had said that she will make her directorial debut post the completion of her film, Manikarnika - The Queen of Jhansi. Now, Kangana has officially announced the details of the film she will helm.
Kangana is known for her unconventional choices, and Teju is no different. While her contemporaries shy away from playing a character older than their real age, Kangana will play an octagenarian.
"I will play an 80-year-old woman in my first directorial Teju. The film will be about every old person I know and have loved. It will also be a lot about me as I am older than my years," the Rangoon actor said in a statement, reported PTI.
Kangana Ranaut will also produce Teju under her newly launched banner, Manikarnika Films, jointly with Shailesh Singh, her Tanu Weds Manu and Simran producer and friend.
Talking about her role as an elderly woman, Kangana said, "She is a warm, vibrant woman, full of life, who doesn't feel old at all."
The 30-year-old actor added, "By the time I was a toddler, my great grandmother was in her eighties. I grew up around old people and it pains me to see senior citizens largely ignored in any community, society or country. Teju is a woman perched on the threshold of death but not yet ready to leave the world."
Teju, which will also be written by Kangana herself, will touch upon issues like mortality and the essence of existence. However, at no point will it become dark, depressing or boring, she said.
Teju will goes on floors in December and is scheduled to release by 2018 end. It will be shot in the Himalayas. "Teju will showcase Himachali life and culture which have largely gone unexplored in our mainstream cinema as filmmakers only use my part of the country as a beautiful setting for their songs," Kangana said. 🥳 🥳
