Like KhatamKahani said, Bollywood/North's vicious colorism shows repeatedly against South Indian stars. They'd copy every aspect of their craft but will never give him the due respect. Also, since they copy plenty of things from Southern films, I am quite sure they do have awareness about the industry. It's just their sheer arrogance which enables them to treat Souther stars less than them in a clear display of colorism/language superiority.

KhatamKahani's fear is legit, Central government pushing Hindi on everyone continues to weaken regional industries and languages and is forced-homogenization. South has really been the only part resisting it and I hope they continue to do it. Maharashtra has been pushing Marathi more too because regional languages are extremely important. I know people generally hate that Southern masala movies play on channels every day these days but it familiarizes people with their industry. Bollywood's arrogance must not be celebrated. They'd rather destabilize every industry in their greed than do any good. Also, KK, they do this dubbed thing with Bengali/other regional films too. Hindi is apparently the standard. And even if Hindi is the standard, Bollywood is not even the only Hindi industry. I understand soft power is important and this is why South needs to be careful about the potentials of their soft power.

@bold, you mean the recent directive of Hindi translation of script, Hindi dub or subtitle? Yeah it is in no way meant to promote other language entertainment, but rather enforce and reinforce Hindi as standard.

Regarding soft power, my crack theory is that someone picked up on the weakening of Hindi soft power in terms of movies and serials. The generation who picked up Hindi through movies and tv, go towards Asian dramas and strengthening local content. Hence some panic and sudden directives.😆😆 But seriously, yes South as well as other industries need to be aware of the potential of soft power and use and push it wisely.

I agree with guess_who, what is this suddenly north being ignorant and all , how do you expect North Indians to have any knowledge of South movies/actors/directors , if they are not following ? what is the point here ?

Because these are so-called journalists, tv channels, and some of them 'National' channels. The piece starts off by mentioning TV anchors. Obviously, not everyone knows Hindi stars, Hindi films, etc etc in many parts of India (despite the patronage Bollywood receives to make it seem pan-India), same way North will not know South stars, South Bengali stars, etc etc.

But that doesn't apply to those whose profession is to properly read up and understand what they are discussing, talking about.

The greater, bigger answer is that there has always been the concentrated push to term Hindi as India, and everything else as outlier. Hindi film industry and 'Regional'' Film industry. Hindi, and 'regional' languages. And that is exactly how national media behave and they report and treat things within that prism.

I loved bahubali but not getting all this "khans getting jealous". "not realizing not tweeting posts".. I mean many bollywood stars not even watch all BW movies.. they tweet or wish whoever they hangout with.. how the hell will they know about south people and their work if they don't watch it in the first place..
I am sure they will appreciate once they watch it somehow

^^ I mean, they feel free to buy the rights from those same Southern films they apparently don't know anything about and flat-out copy though? Sometimes even not buy the rights and copy regardless. It's arrogance about their so-called cultural outreach and disrespect for Southern industry and stars. Also, the discussion is clearly about the standardization and forced homogenization of national media which otherizes Southern movie industry and South India in general for obvious reasons related to language+appearance. Idk where some of you are getting Khans and other nonsense from. It's clearly a discussion about national media's continued push for and disregard of other industries and languages not Bollywood or Hindi.

only explanation is ignorance. there are some entities like that in every state. south india is not a homogeneous group. if a strong centre in INDIA didnt exist then there would never be a south india rather there would be 5 or more different units. same goes for north india.

hmm...on set max they only show masala movies with males as central characters and the female lead is mostly romantic interest(and sometimes is so pathetically objectified,it seems way worse than bollywood)...perhaps it isn't...I read about good south indian movies on this forum but they don't play those on set max😆
When compared to bollywood, how worse or better are south indian movie industries in terms of good roles for the actresses?do they have more movies with female central characters when compared to bollywood or less?

I am focussing on this because the objectification in south indian movies I have seen is too much.
