I think this is the issue with BW in general. IN HW, singers are a separate entity from actors, barring a few which are both. They release their own albums, have their own concerts which people swarm to go to and paparazzi are crazy after. People like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez (who has acted a bit too) have massive fan followings, even crazier than actors because people love their music and their music is there own and picturized on them.

IN BW unfortunately, the singer is left behind the screens and often times beautiful songs are referred to as the actor's who it was picturized on which is unfortunate. Also I read someone in this whole fiasco talking about singers autotuning and what not, but actors get the same stuff when they sing also. It would be nice to see indian singers release their own songs and albums, only then will they be respected as much as actors these days.

So Sonakshi thinks that anyone who doesn't agree with her is a troll and needs to be blocked. Even if the person makes perfectly valid points. 😆

Sonakshi is an entitled brat. She did fashion for a while, then acting, then singing. She's not good at anything yet thinks that she deserves all these opportunities coming her way. Then she has the audacity to ask what nepotism is and mock other hardworking artists. Finally, singers are taking a stand. Good to see talentless brats getting kicked to the curb.

Luv Sinha should join Adhyayan Suman in Loserville and be KHAMOSH.

I'm in the minority, but I DISAGREE with Sona Mohapatra wholeheartedly.

First of all... it's a freaking JUSTIN BIEBER concert 😆
Gurl, if Sonakshi was performing the Indian National Anthem as the opening act for Barbra Streisand, then maybe, just maybe, you might have a point.
But Justin Bieber? Really queen? He's a pompous "pop star" who has been exposed several times for his RACIST attitudes (several videos out there of him using the N word) and he's basically this generation's Britney Spears. So Sonakshi performing at his show is no big deal at all.

Secondly... I have a problem with people saying "she's an actor so she must only stick to that" - it's WEAK! Let me ask why? WHY? She's been given a chance to act in movies, she took it up, who wouldn't? Her first film was a hit, she became a star, she walked the ramp for fashion designers, she endorsed brands, starred in ads, done music videos... she's making her money. She's a f**king diva! You should be bigging her up not bringing her down girl.
Sonakshi is NOT going to be the next Lata Mangeshkar. But neither is Sona Mohapatra. Back in the day Jaddanbai (mother of Nargis Dutt) was born in 1892, she went on to act in movies, she was a singer also. She even was an acclaimed music composer and she then became a writer.
Jaddanbai wrote/directed/acted in "Madam Fashion" in 1936.
That's just one example of a multi-talented woman.
There have been dozens upon dozens over the years.
WHY ARE WE CONFINING THEM TO ONE ART FORM?

Did anybody ever say to Salman Khan he should not be producing films, because he's "taking jobs away from other producers"?
Or tell SRK not to endorse brands.
Or Ayushman not to sing in his films, because Arijit Singh is not getting a pay cheque!
NO. I don't remember that happening either.

The story here is that Sinha is a far bigger star than Mohapatra who feels betrayed by the GAME. But she's hating on the player, and that's not cute.
Mohapatra is a fantastic singer. She's so talented. She's not getting much work these days. She sees an actress getting a big gig in the music sphere. She feels jealous. It's natural. But she does not have to bring others down to bring herself up.

And now she's pretending she wouldn't play at Justin's gig if they paid her big bucks. Who is she kidding. That's exactly what this whole thing is all about.

Singers in India DO need more respect and more platforms, but this is NOT the way to go about it.

Sona Mohapatra

Sona Mohapatra said that she would refuse to open' for Justin Bieber even if she was paid truckloads.

The Sona vs Sona Twitter skirmish resulted in actor Sonakshi Sinha blocking singer Sona Mohapatra on the social network. The latter's sarcastic response, also on the social network, made it abundantly clear what thought she thought of the move.

A lot of people in the music industry have criticised the choice of Sonakshi as an opening act for pop superstar Justin Bieber's May concert in Mumbai " their objection is that she is an actor, not a singer, and therefore not worthy of this recognition " but Sona's voice has by far been the angriest. And that was even before being blocked.

Commenting on the step taken by Sonakshi on Twitter, Sona tells us, "[What triggered it] was voicing my opinion that [Sonakshi] is unworthy of the platform (the concert) being given to her on a platter by a marketing machine. It wasn't on the basis of merit that she was chosen for the slot. Being a musician and performer myself, I spoke out and she, in turn, chose to respond in this manner."

Recalling an instance of watching the actor host an awards show, Sona says, "I've watched [Sonakshi] from the live audience at a music awards show last year, stumbling over basic lines that she was reading from a teleprompter, not having learnt them. A complete contrast to her supremely talented co-host Ayushmann Khurrana, who was delivering his lines with aplomb, speaking, improvising, singing and being charming!

When you can't say [your] lines being an actor', which should be a basic skill for your job, why try posing as a pop star? TV shows cover up with smart editing and retakes, so we are all conned. Aspire for higher standards in your field? Did you watch her performance' during the Coldplay concert? Many did and shared their experiences on their timelines. You should check that out to understand my [stance] better."

Senior musician Kailash Kher was the first to criticise the choice of Sonakshi, and then many singers expressed a similar opinion. Sonakshi herself clarified afterwards that she was not going to perform at the Bieber concert, stating that the speculation began because she had been approached for an opening act. Singer Armaan Malik also got embroiled in a war of words with Sonakshi following Kher's comments.

Don't assume your dream is more valid than any other person's because you are in an industry that works like an enlarged family and mostly backs only and the ones who suck up to you. Win your place under the arc lights on merit
👏👏👏
On April 24, Sona had gone on a Twitter rant against Sonakshi, slamming her for "cutting the line to pursue your entitled dream". There's the fact that Sonakshi has cut a single with music composer Honey Singh, so is it wrong if she wishes to sing in future, too? "She is free like anyone else to pursue any dream. Please do it honestly and don't assume your dream is more valid than any other person's because you are in an industry that works like an enlarged family and mostly backs only insiders and the ones who suck up to you. Win your place under the arc lights on merit. As I said earlier, one or two songs recorded don't give you an automatic pass to cut the line of worthier artists and acts that deserve the limited platforms and opportunities that a world stage offers," retorts Sona.

After reports that Sonakshi would perform at the highly anticipated Bieber concert, Sona had tweeted: "Such a slap on the face of music, audiences, fans of music, performing artists, live music, musicians & also on India. Integrity be damned." Standing by her words, Sona explains, "In the larger scheme of things, a Justin Bieber concert isn't that significant, but I do believe it sends out the wrong signals. We should have our best talents represent us in every field."

What made her call Sonakshi's statement a "juvenile face saving post"? Sona maintains, "She spent a full day talking condescendingly and patronisingly to the young Amaal (Mallik, singer-composer) and Armaan Malik and let her troll army say nastier things to them. Then having faced a backlash from music fans who caught her bluff, [she] decided to backtrack. The clarification came too late and also ended with more condescending trite lines and emoticons. Why shouldn't we call it ungracious and juvenile? It was. It is."

Sona further wrote that if Sonakshi wasn't performing at the Bieber concert, then she should have just said no' and not talked about her art, dreams and rights on the live performance stage. "I have nothing personal against her. I just wish people [would] stop trivialising music as an art form," says the singer.

Having tweeted that "I'd refuse to open' for Justin Bieber even if I was paid truckloads", Sona elucidates, "I'm not personally fond of his music, so I don't see why I should conform to popular taste just to fit in with the herd. Also, my music and artistry has a very different soundscape and for me context is everything. Force-fitting myself anywhere for ambition's sake only is harakiri, to say the least! I have no ill will or malice against him and hope his fans have the night of their lives when he performs in Mumbai."

About her description of singer Armaan Malik as the "perfect opening act for Bieber", Sona says, "I gave two names: Armaan Malik and Sanam (the band). They represent the new pop music of India and have worked their way to musical success with hard work. I respect that."

When we contacted Sonakshi Sinha for a comment on why she chose to block Sona, the actor texted us: "I block all trolls."

And it's so PETTY of Mohapatra to bring up an incident where apparently Sonakshi has fumbled her words at an award show. It happens to the best. Remember that time when she herself fell down on stage while performing? She's just bitter.

This Sona chick often barks twitter to gain some attention. She's a filth herself when she'd target fans with cruel words.

I guess no one is giving her any work, even her own husband 😆 who barely gets any himself

According to Sona Mohapatra, it wasn't really about it being a justin bieber concert though. As she says here,Standing by her words, Sona explains, "In the larger scheme of things, a Justin Bieber concert isn't that significant, but I do believe it sends out the wrong signals. We should have our best talents represent us in every field."
And she is right! Why should good and able singers be given backseat in their own professions for actors who can barely hold a tune and sing mainly through the help of autotune. They are not even singers, heck forget best of the field, so why should they be given chances for live performance like this? It is about MERIT and being able to do something WELL! Not everything can be oh, hey I feel like singing today (which takes years and years of training and sacrifice mind you to reach mastery) and just hog these opportunities from actual singing professionals.

There should be a clear line drawn. I honestly don't think anyone can defend this. It's ridiculous. If actors are given opportunities for even singing, then what the hell are real singers supposed to do? Become the second class citizens in their own professions for these nepotistic brats? And I see people bringing in salman to defend this, but salman doesn't go around opening for western acts and cosplay as singer, if he wants to give a tour, he is does it with his own money and star power. and singing to promote your movie is okay, but to actually go for LIVE performance representing India, when you can't sing at all is to make mockery of it all.
