That is a very common practice amongst Punjabis ...brother marrying his deceased brother's wife, its socially acceptable and in fact encouraged by families. Its called Chaadar chadhana...that is putting a sheet over the widow's head by the guy to accept her as his wife.

It seems to be a custom in Gujrat too, as in the TV show Gulal they showed the same thing

Umz: Sounds exactly like my b'day!! That's lovely. I had a dinner date with my Dad y'day too! Pan-Asian. <3 And at the end of it, he insisted I buy perfume!! He he. That sounds so sweet. How was the food at the Pan-Asian place? That is the important question. Which perfume did you buy? Oh no no I never take days off on my birthday. Only stay home on really sick days or big religious holidays.

Thank-you for sharing those words by that man. They did make me reflect and feel a little better. The thing is, it is because growing old is inevitable that it freaks me out. If it was something else that could be helped, something that I had power over then it wouldn't be such a big deal. When it comes to this you feel powerless. I know, I am one of those people who fears aging. I can't help it. It's funny because normally, I am chill about everything. I don't stress about stuff and have a very optimistic, easy-going approach to things. However, growing up is the one thing that gets to me. Everyone's just like umz stop worrying. You don't even look your age. You look like you are 20 years old.
