Just chiming in, I'm prob in the minority, but I actually don't mind v-day too much. Like for me, it's always been a day of love. Not just romantic love, but celebrating love in general, for like friends, family, etc. Flowers to brighten up the home, chocolate for everyone to enjoy, little valentine cards/ jokes to share, etc. When I was younger, in school we'd always give valentine cards + candies to ppl and my mom would always hold like a v-day family get-together where my close family would meet-up, chill, and have like cake. So I've always had a pretty positive reaction to the day.I just think it's a nice day. That said, I do recognize how cheesy and cliche, and gag-inducing it can be, especially in terms of romantic love. And I agree that the focus on partner-love and its commercialization is annoying af.
Ah man you just made me nostalgic. Reminded me of my childhood too; making handmade cards or buying a box of cute Valentines Day cards along with making treat bags for all the classmates, doing Valentines arts and crafts in class, and finally getting to take home Valentines cards/treats from all the classmates. I am certain that somewhere in my house, I still have a box of all the cards I received back then. I think I will search for them and take a look on Valentines Day since I am single (and happy) lol.
Now it's all about the post Valentines sale for chocolate/candy/plush toys at stores.
