Off late Sushant Singh Rajput had been in news for suggesting to drop Rajput from his surname. Some people called it genuine, some thought it as buttering for the film bigwigs while some more people thought something else. Whatever be his sucess is still a mystery mostly for some actors mostly TV actors, wondering how did he achieve so much just coming from TV background.
Where Sushant is now is a result of lot of planning, careful decisions, patience, risks that he had taken .
Few days back India Forums came up with a biased article on some Tv actors who could not make it to bollywood. Biased because it conveniently escaped naming some more few actors who were big and are still big among TV fans but are total zero in film industry circuits. Those names were not there. Infact those unnamed tv actors are biggest disasters compared to those mentioned in the article.
Coming to the topic what is that in sushant that others lacked. His journey was like this
1. Most TV actors quit shows once they realise they are popular to start bollywood journey.They cite reasons like tiredness, fatigueness, issues with producers-channels or some are honest and directly accept they had received film offers. In case of Sushant Singh Rajput it was different. It was not that he got Kai Poche and he quit his show. He had a very good relationship with the balaji family. So when the talk of leap in the show was happening, he honestly told the producers that he would continue or work in their next serial but not as father in pavitra rishta as he wanted to play young roles. The producers understood. It was not like other TV actors where there was no generation leap scenario but they still quit abruptly. His exit was very cordial. He didnt upset the channel nor the producers as the decision was mutual and as the Tv serial was planning to focus next on new generation leads like ritwik and asha negi. This was his first goal and acheivement to quit with goodwill not to be looked upon as someone who ditched the producers for few days of fame, long break, or filmy dreams. Sorry to say but Rajeev Khandelwal did carry a bad reputation when he quit some of it which continues till today. There are some more rajeev khandelwals in the making process.ahead you all know well. Proof : Sujal the name , the character is still alive. But Sushant's Tv role is somehow overshadowed by his film screen persona. That means sushant has succeded to move ahead because he left it neat and clean.
2. Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa was happening side by side. He thought winning the show is not in his hands but whatever days he stays he should leave an imprint on the celebrity judges. The actresses who came as guest judges in jhalak dikhlaa jaa are now his costars or the the fact that he has meatier role than them in the movies now.
3. Sushant Singh Rajput told his friends that he doesnt had much hopes from films because the god father system, favouritism system works how much we deny it. He saw across celebs who praised him but did he see anyone who could push him and support his launch? His friends told him- arey yaar you have lots of female fans. There are those fans writing in india forums , facebook, twitter. He laughed and said that is very superficial cause film business are not run by fangirls . We need strong fanbase which comprises of all demography including young boys. We Tv actors are not that favourite among young boys,"
Sushant had already calculated what he needed to do. He did dance shows, performed in award functions, hosting awards. These were the baby steps.
Dont think that he didnt get film offeres while doing pavitra rishta and jhalak dikhlaa jaa. He did get a number of offers even from ok types Production houses like ashtavinayak, etc etc. He declined because he knew even if the script is awesome, it needs strong back up, marketing and established filmaker. If a new filmaker is debuting with a debutant its not the right combination.
THE REAL GAME CHANGER
4. The moment he got offer from UTV and Abhishek Kapoor for kai Poche he knew he would do it. He simply told the script is nice but its a huge relief that the execution of the film to the post production, marketing and launching of sushant singh rajput, the tv actor was in safe and experienced hands. So Sushant didnt jump in any tom dick and harry offer even if the offers had a good script or film festival type scripts. He knew he is not trying to be irfaan khan or nawazuddin by going through film festival type scripts. So planning was the most important aspect that sushant had which other tV actors lacked who are now complaining about sushant that how did he rise so much,
5. The most significant thing that UTV did for Sushant was that they started his publicity campaign even before the shoot started. Thats the advantage one gets to be launched by a good production team. The result was that in film circles all began to be talking about a new boy called sushant singh rajput being promoted and launched in a big way by crtically acclaimed director abhishek kapoor and box offcie kings UTV , The effect was that Rajkumar Hirani who had a small role written for anushkas boyfriend in P.K , was looking for a suitable actor with popularity. Ofcourse that role was rejected by Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. But is Rajkumar Hirani so desperate that just because two popular actors rejected that small role he will take anybody? NO. Rajkumar Hirani knew this actor had the backing of the industry and its UTV who recommended his name as UTV was co producing P.K . We all know that role indeed benefitted him. Moreover Aditya chopra even before kai poche released offered him a three film deal with YRF. and he even signed as YRF talent. Sushant also developed close bonding and friendship with Sanjay Leela Bhansali whose results we will definitely see in upcoming years ahead.
Even all were suprised by the fallout between him and Yash Raj Films. But the conclusion was, he is indeed being supported by the others in industry that is why he could take on YRF and leave them. It showed he has become an integral part of film industry. This was substantiated when MS Dhoni gave him his first big 100 crore blockbuster putting him in A lister league.
So it was not that like other actors he suddenly quit like a fool, did movies from unknown production houses, or did art films, did short films /web projects, went here and there.
Sushant's career graph is totally a well planned, well thought and well executed mission.
So no point comparing and asking why sushant could did and others couldnt? It was clear Sushant would have returned to TV if there was no UTV to support him.because no use being a rejected actor on films.Better to be known actor of TV.
Note: Its totally useless to compare SRK, Vidya Balan with sushant.
Vidya-SRK as tv actors are totally different from Ram Kapoor-Sakshi Tanwar as Tv actor. Those days Tv was not big nor the tv stars were exposed. SRK, Vidya doing TV at that time was very ordinary. Unlike at sushant's time when Tv actors are worshipped like demi gods and have their own fan following, awards . Todays TV actors dont need films basically to justify their success. Smriti Irani is biggest example of TV stardom. During SRK-VIdya time coming to films from TV background was not that much problematic as it is now.
Sushant's MS Dhoni did show his vast fan base .He indeed doesnt need to rely on fan-girls to trend him on twitter or show their support .He has come a long way.
