You honestly lost me there mate 😕
Mate , what I wished to state was succesful people should not look down upon others and oxford guys are not idiots to call her . We have seen earlier shahrukh khan , lalu prasad being called to universities as well. Since you are an alumni from oxford yourself , you probably understand this as well and finally I wished that may you too someday get a chance to speak at oxford 😛

Nah mate I'm good, lecturing a bunch of third year hungover medical students isn't my thing.

Lalu Prasad was a successful railway minister. SRK again I may not like him personally but he has achieved quite a bit, he's a good public speaker and a Businessman. He has a successful career and doesnt he rank in the Forbes highest paid actors or something?

Katrina, I dont see her merits, theres a lot of media hype but I dont think she's achieved anything to warrant a speech at Oxford. Had it been someone like Priyanka Chopra or Rahul Bose or Nandita Das, then that would've been a different story
All about perception isn't it ? Katrina kaif became succesful in a country which is not even her motherland , I would say this is unnecessary hoopla surrounding her speech . I might not consider robin wright who is giving speech herself worthy . katrina kaif spoke eloquently at a recent UN related event. She was articulate there .

Well if thats the case then, Jacqueline, Nargis, Sunny Leone they've all moved from their mother country and managed to establish themselves successfully'. All of them should be standing up there in the debating chamber.

She's being called there in the capacity of an actress and she's nowhere near successful as an actress. Theres no denying Katrina is famous and she's a successful celebrity but thats not because of her acting skills, shes no good at the main part of her job i.e. acting.
And in my perception, Robin Wright, acts and directs and she's actually good or successful' in that field. Plus far as I'm aware, she does a lot charitable work in Congo.

@. Bold. - there is no need to name call students of a university just because you are not happy with the university inviting a celebrity to speak. YOU may hv been a third year hungover medical student, I'm sure there are students in Oxford who actually study and have some kind of self respect and don't get ants in their pants over someone else being called as guest speaker in a prestigious university.

Katrina is being invited as being successful beyond ordinary in her field which is ENTERTAINMENT of which acting is a part. Otherwise they can call Irrfan Khan or Nawazuddin Shah.

I'm sure the Sri Lankans honour Jaqueline too in a similar manner considering she too made a success out of herself in a foreign country although. It to the extent Katrina has done.

Let's not talk about Sunny and Nargis. Their success cannot be compared to Katrina.

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. most Ivies are overrated to some degree in America. The most overrated is Brown. Columbia and Yale are the most hardest in terms of curriculum. I think Oxford is harder too. The Obamas are both very intelligent people and they earned their places I am sure. I respect them both but just putting it out there. If they have people like the Obamas they also had a Bush graduate form there.

I know many people who get into Harvard due to connections and not merit. Many people that were more intelligent didnt get in.

Harvard is like the Iron Gate...an absolutely brilliant student /achiever from any school who can be guaranteed successful admission in any other college can find himself or herself rejected because every other student applying to Harvard is similarly or more intellectually or academically endowed. Yes, if a student is from a famous family, or extremely rich and can contribute in terms of donations or their prestige that such and such son daughter of such and such celeb is studying there, they might get in even though their grades achievements might not be on par with others but they definitely will not take in academic dodos, no matter who their parents are.

I don't think Soha is above average at all in intelligence. She is reasonably intelligent. She isn't even as articulate or intelligent as Alia really.😆 But she has that all round grounded, down to earth, sweet personality, which is rare for someone whose parents are so famous. Which is rare for a person in showbiz in particular and wonderful to have in general. She probably didn't make it big in films for that very reason, didn't play games or compromise on her ideals.

Soha lives in her own world, doing exactly what she likes, and not interfering in others lives. I find her more calm and happy in her space than most so called successful people😆 and her hubby also seems to be her soul mate, so cute, witty, and nice.

I completely disagree with your assessment, especially the one about Alia being more intelligent than Soha. Remember this was someone who became the joke of industry and spokes person stupidity, after her answer about Prithvi Raj Chauhan being the President of India. I dont know what can make you more dumb than not knowing the President of your own country. Soha is far more articulate and intelligent than Alia IMO.
No Harvard is not the hardest or most renowned school in America especially in terms of curriculum. Yale and Columbia are hardest ones. Other schools like Johns Hopkins, Emory, Georgetown are more respected in terms of curriculum alone.

We will have to agree to disagree.

As a Katrina fan, I would totally say something...but knowing this is India Forums, I am gonna politely sit my ass out on this one, and let this one explode. I'm just gonna wait for the video to be posted before I can critique Katrina.

What will she even speak about?
"How you can be rich and famous without having any sort of education or talent"?
