I was and am fascinated with Superman -the caped "crusader". I might find it very ironic how revered the word crusader is, while at the same time Jihad is maligned, but the word crusader has ZERO meaning or importance for me.

Again, people cant try to justify their intolerance but thats what it is at the end of the day- intolerance. Ironic cuz people who pride themselves on being the bastions of tolerance and inclusion are bigots in actuality.

We need more Salman Rushdies to represent the voice of freedom and sanity against religious zealots. People who issue fatwas on someone's head are a curse to the civilised society.

And people who support such maniacs are no different

Right-wing Hindutva brigade wish death on newborn child of Saif and Kareena

December 20, 2016

Star Bollywood couple Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan were blessed with a baby boy on Tuesday. They named their child Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi.'

"We would like to thank the media for the understanding and support they have given us over the last 9 months, and of course especially our fans and well wishers for their continued affection," Saif and Kareena said in a statement.

According to sources, Kareena delivered the baby in the morning on Tuesday at the Breach Candy Hospital, in south Mumbai and is reported to be in good health.

While it is the first child for the 36-year-old actress, Saif already has two kids Sara and Ibrahim with ex wife Amrita Singh.

But, for what was a moment of joy for the Bollywood couple and their respective fans, the right-wing Hindutva supporters were left seething on social media platforms.

These users, often dubbed as paid troll army of the right-wing brigade, took serious objection to Saif and Kareena naming their child Taimur.

The right-wing supporters' objection to the name Taimur was based on a deep-rooted belief that the central Asian ruler had allegedly slaughtered Hindus during his invasion of India in the late fourteenth and early fifteenth century.

One of the first social media users to slam the celebrated Bollywood couple for naming their son Taimur was the RSS poster boy, Tarek Fatah, who's known for his Islamophobic rants.

A Pakistani by birth, Fatah wrote on his Facebook page, "I am astounded. How on earth would any Indian name their son Timur' or Taimur' the man who committed a genocide of Hindus and Muslims of India, who built pyramids of human skulls across India. And this is the supposed Muslim royalty' of Hindustan?

"For Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor to name their son Taimur' is evidence of utter ignorance or an arrogant embrace of the crimes committed by those who invaded and plundered Hindustan. What a fall, from Tagore to Timur."

Fatah, who is not a student of history, has been known for his hateful rants taregtting anything Muslim. He's often found himself in the spot of bother and embarrassment for his inability to back his claims with evidence.

Fatah, however, found support on Twitter from the usual suspects in the right-wing army, who joined the chorus to condemn Saif and Kareena.

The criticism wasn't just confined to the star couple with the hatred by right-wing group soon turning into a wish for the new born child's death.

The death wish for the newly born received instant condemnation on the microblogging site.

Contrary to the spin being given to Taimur's history to defame a celebrity couple bearing a Muslim name, this is what one of India's finest historians, once wrote about the the central Asian ruler.

Irfan Habib wrote, "Those whom he slaughtered were not all infidel Hindus, deserving their fate, as in Yazdi, but both Hindus and Muslims: such as were killed by Timur when he marched towards Delhi "obtained the honour of martyrdom (sharaf-e shahdat)". Like Yazdi, he too describes the slaughter of all the enslaved captives in the hands of Timur before his recrossing of the Yamuna to attack Delhi: his estimate of the number of the victims is more moderate, being 50 000 as against Yazdi's 100 000."

Meanwhile, unperturbed by the social media discourse, the family appeared to be on the moon over the addition to the Pataudi and Kapoor family.

nothing sick , its normal now a days with little open bigotry by RSS fanatic followers, who r trying to teach other and protect humanity . lol.

No. Nobody has the "right" to insult the sufferings of people by naming their offspring after monsters who killed countless innocents.

I fail to understand why people are assuming that saif named his son after that ruler?
Did he came in anyone's dream and told it?
Its just that people prefer names with good meaning and the names which are uncommon
so he might have choose the name on this basis

well each to their own while you can associate it with the suffering of the long gone past which can not be changed I see it as breaking the old notions and taboos and creating a new future with new possibilities free from judgement. So yeah suit yourself you stick to your plan and I'll stick to mine 😊

Because 'Taimur' is overwhelmingly associated with one person in particular. Saif is an educated and erudite person. Can't say it was sheer ignorance on his part.

First thing stuck to their mind is communal angle, when they can see love jihad in saif -kareena marriage than obviously, when they see a name not expected as per their sanskar familiarity, then they try portray communal angle. Their bigotry channelize through their bashing their personal life.

Keeping aside the fanatics history of able to create storm in a teacup , if at all its inspired by Timur then why there is a extra A in the name ? As in historical context everywhere Timur reference is there not Taimur .😆

I have hardly seen people naming kids after kings or rulers
since he is educated, that is why, i am giving benefit of doubt :)
he may not have gone in history n check wat to name baby
Taimur sounds royal n its very uncommon name in India so he kept it...simple

Taimur is the actual name. Timur or Tamerlane is the anglicized version. Gotta love it when people play "Uh I'm so innshent". 😆

^Some people can't even stand cartoons drawn in a newspaper but everyone else is supposed to tolerate everything, including the glorification of a murderer who caused genocide. Then start shouting "islamaphobia!!" at every little thing.

Nobody has any issue with Muslims or muslim names. Most of the people here are fans of the Khans and I've never heard anyone saying bad things about celebrity children here. Nobody has any issue with the little baby but with his ignorant and arrogant parents.

Btw, there is huge nostalgia amongst many Muslims for ancient times when they were invaders and conquerers and extreme pride about how they "ruled" over India. Also a desperation to be seen as having Arab genes though most of them don't have even a tiny percent of them. Not too surprised that Saifu is one of them with his wannabe firangness and royalty.

I don't blame Kareena much because she is just a dodo and Saif has her wrapped around his finger. Can't expect any sense from her.

👏 👏 👏 👏

one of the finest post i saw...

The hopeless pataudi of recent times ...😆 😆 😆
