I saw a studio screening for "La La Land" a few days ago and i am in LOVE!!! Its been a long time since i've seen such a great movie. The chemistry of Emma and Ryan is on FIRE and thats what makes it work.
At the end of the movie i wished if someone in Bollywood would remake the movie with SRK and Kajol. Both SRK and Kajol are well past their prime and the story would have to be tweaked but i can see no one from the present generation pulling off a chemistry like this. SLB would be the perfect director to pul off such a movie but he doesn't have the modern sensibility of KJo who in turn lacks the visual mastery of SLB.

No. They don't have the ability, simply put. Almost every Bollywood movie is a musical and you can't even begin to compare the two. That says a lot, doesn't it.

I saw La La Land at TIFF this year and I was stunned. Saw it again a couple of days ago and I am still in awe, still in love with it. It is a piece of art.

Forget the chemistry for a bit, its great but its not what makes the movie. What makes it work is Damien Chazelle (he is the writer and the director). The movie bleeds his passion, his love for jazz and musicals and for story-telling. There is a scene where Sebastian explains to Mia what Jazz is, why he loves it; and it is written and delivered so beautiful and you can't help but appreciate Jazz too. Its his love letter to the musicals/movies of the yore and it shows.

Chazelle's mastery behind the camera is amazing for some-one so young; the way he structures the shots, transitions between scenes, it gives this smooth, magical feel to the movie. He does many long takes (a quality that tells great directors apart) and its here that the movie becomes alive. Some of the sequences are just jaw dropping. And boy the colour present throughout. I could go on and on...

I don't think anyone moves the camera as well as he does. Its present in Whiplash as well but here he takes it up ten notches. The opening sequence and then that climax; I don't want to spoil it, but Chazelle takes the final act to a crescendo that is rarely seen in movies, it is transcendent.

Sorry that was a bit long but La La Land does that to me. This is the kind of movie that made me fall in love with the art of visual storytelling, of film-making. Do go see it everyone. The big screen is made for this.

As for suggestions, it won't work.

Shahrukh and Kajol, how many movies have they been in? I have never seen anything like this from them. With them it would an over the top, cheesy cringe-fest. They just don't have charm to pull of characters like Mia and Sebastian. Also I believe Gosling and Stone are superior actors.

The bigger problem is the director. Nobody's work has something like this. I guess the best pick for me, if I had to, had to pick someone it would be Vikram Aditya Motwane. At-least he knows how to move the camera around and has so far made two great movies.

SLB and Karan, really? They can't come with a half decent script or dialogue if their life depended on it. Same goes for their directorial skills, they are atrocious. I mean they have made or tired to make musicals before, which one is even watchable out of them?.

I hope not.
They tend to destroy south remakes.
