The Marathi sleeper hit of this year SAIRAAT won many a hearts at the box-office and also across the nation. The movie starring absolutely unknown actors went to be a major force to be reckoned with when it came to its eventual theatrical run and managed to collect around 90 crores from the domestic box-office. The movie will obviously go on everyone's periphery and everyone wanted to remake in all regional languages, especially in Hindi. And now it seems that it has been achieved. Karan Johar and his production house, Dharma Productions has picked up the Hindi remaking rights of the movie and will co-produce the venture with Zee (the original producers of the lm). The movie will have new comers in it and a writers team has began working on Hindi draft of the movie already. One of the Dharma's in-house directors will helm the project and the shooting for the movie will begin sometime next year. That's not all. SAIRAAT has been also picked up to be remade in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam all the remakes will begin shooting early next year as well. SAIRAAT is surely the success story of 2016 hands down!

Dharma has become useless... total scarcity of original scripts.. better to close it down if you have to borrow scripts and make remakes all the time

I can assure both of you would have different opinion if it was SLB or YRF who had brought the rights.

Dharma maybe not fan of Ching 😆 but atleast they aren't as desperate as Befikre🤢

LOL exactly...part of the charm was how desi it was..KJo is sure to get rid of that. 😆 The songs were also so beautifully shot...don't see how any of KJo's directors is going to accomplish that.

I'm not a huge fan of Sairat, just liked it. But honestly, Bollywood doesn't have many directors who can handle the political and social backdrop well. Plus a very strong point of some regional films is the rustic touch they have. Dharma is the last production house to be having that strong 'rustic' touch. The ones that have aren't commercial. The basic story of Sairat has been seen in a lot of movies, it is the treatment that makes it diff.

It's basically Ek Duje Ke Liye meets Qayamat se Qayamat Tak. But the treatment of the movie is good -- it's engaging and I actually managed to care about the characters which hasn't happened in a love story since ages.

Will this be Sairat for NRI?

Seriously, Karan has issues flying economy. How in the world will he produce movie which needs his protagonist to live in slums. for most part of the second half...

Will there be slum chic dcor, slum chic Jhoopdi, slum chic clothes?

Premam is perfect movie for him to remake- as long as he is not the one who is doing it. I have few expectation for Ok Kanmani.

But Sairat is so out of his comfort zone. ☢️
