Abdul Latif was underworld king of Gujarat and Dawood Ibrahim associate. He was based in Ahmedabad and was politically well networked. Once he contested the Ahmedabad municipal elections and won from five seats simultaneously. He used to wait on tables in gambling dens where he started serving liquor as a teenager. He became a small-time bootlegger and eventually monopolised the illegal liquor business in Gujarat. Latif was wanted for over 40 cases of murder and a similar number of kidnaps and was a suspect in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

He was arrested in 1995 from Delhi and was housed at the Sabarmati jail pending trial. In November 1997, Abdul Latif was shot dead by the police in Ahmedabad while allegedly trying to escape. In 2014 Latif's second son Shaikh Arif Abdul Latif fought election against Shanker Singh Vaghela in whose chiefministership Latif was killed . Latif's other son had also contested against Vaghela in 2009.

The bollywood film Raees (film) is loosely based on Abdul Latif's life.

I kinda agree with Slumdog's view, SRK seems to be lagging behind Salman and Aamir at present. You can't even compare movies like HNY and Dilwale with BB or PK. Fan is the only decent movie he did in the recent past content wise. Anyways I'm hopeful for Raees and really want it to be a good movie

They are now more keen in watching Salman's movies than SRK's. They keep saying "What happened to SRK? Why is he making such crappy movies?" 😆

Raees teaser looked good. Let's see how the trailer turns out to be.
