I don't know why so many Indian guys like to discredit feminism. They act like they live in Sweden/Norway. Open your eyes, you live in India.

Women in India face intolerable discrimination. Please read the newspaper everyday and you will realize it or just try to listen to women and understand why their complaints are problematic.

So many comments on Facebook where guys just laugh at the problems women voice and belittle them.

A small example was the furor I saw in YouTube comments by guys over the female version of the PKP monologue. So many insecure guys who would have women laugh along with them at Kartik Tiwari's monologue but can't stand it when a woman does the same.

Thats just the online version of sexism. If its in the real world, it will be in the virtual world too. They are not here to sympathize or understand. They are here to shut them down just like in the real world.

True. I guess that's why it;s important to speak up, 'cause no one else will fight for you. You have to be your own soldier. If it dissuades some guys from viewing those women as 'girlfriends/wives', which they think is the most horrible punishment that could be given out 😆, then so be it.

Open letter or not, its still not about us. The writer is behaving like the letter was written to her and she is offended. Its a letter with certain thoughts from a grandfather to his grand daughters.Personally she knows none and yet will question everything written in it with her own mindset. I find it weird and funny.

I don't agree with everything the writer has said, but why should she not question it? Its afterall an open letter. If she dissected a leaked personal letter i would get your point.

I never get why people even need to write open letters to family members. Just call them or sit down with them and talk to them. Why the whole hoopla? First of all a letter. And that too an open letter. It just comes off as playing to the gallery rather than actual sentiment b/w 2 people

It is a PR stunt which is pretty clear. sad part is we all fall prey to it in some way or the other.

I don't use my father's surname...
I am sure many people use father's name coz that's what is written in your HSC & SSC forms to begin with..
Even married women are asked to compulsorily mention husband's name...so yes while there is rampant sexism, AB should have refrained from it coz he is the one making all the lofty claims about feminism & that was his intent behind making a rather personal communication, accessible to public

Kids will not distinguish and differentiate relations as paternal and maternal. They do not understand legacy. All that matters to Aradhya will be, who showers her most love. Grumpy alcoholic grandma and fake Grandpa on one side, caring and smiling grandparents on the other side. What will the kid choose? Mr. Bacchan, you can keep that letter for the time being. She still needs some more years to understand words like legacy, character etc. If this letter has been forgotten by then, write another one.

I think, this one was just for us to read. Or else you would not have put in in public. Next time when you write a letter to Aradhya, write in a language she understands. (Something like Rail Gaadi by Ashok Kumar).
