He shouldn't have made this public.
I don't like how people are judging a letter written by a grandpa to his grandchildren.
He has written whatever he could for them within his intellectual/emotional capacities.. Not everyone thinks like you(to the one who write the article dissecting his letter).

Whatever it consists of, it is still written in good intention, in love, in his capacities.

He's an old man like someone said above, it is for his grandchildren to accept or reject what is in that letter..

And, it is the gesture that has to be respected... If your grandpa gave you a letter like that, would you in return slap a letter on his face dissecting and objecting each and everything like this???

People always need to prove their so called intelligence and "sensitivities" in this generation 😳

Open letter or not, its still not about us. The writer is behaving like the letter was written to her and she is offended. Its a letter with certain thoughts from a grandfather to his grand daughters.Personally she knows none and yet will question everything written in it with her own mindset. I find it weird and funny.

I'm actually against the over analyzing of letters too and that too by finding feminism issues in every thing. But we do have to understand that 'legacy' shit he sprouted can be VERY detrimental in a country like India where people literally worship Amitabh. This legacy thing puts unnecessary pressure on not only girls, but CHILDREN. When you say - carry on the legacy, it is another way of saying if you don't, log kahenge. People are killed, in their false pride of carrying the legacy of the surnames. A girl can't get married outside the caste because "legacy" of surname, an office going man wouldn't let his son become a "bawarchi" because mera naam kharab Karegaa! As a public figure, people follow Amitabh they'll be agar Amitabh Aisa karta hai toh hum bhi karenge. He should've thought it out before.

I honestly do not understand this concept of making such "personal" letters public. The only reason he included his grand daughters in it was to garner interest. Nowadays any generic message said by anyone influential is taken to be the best thing ever plus sites like ScoopWhoop, Storypick etc are paid tonnes to share them as much as they can. I remember when Deepika's my choice video came, atleast a dozen girls on my friend list shared it on their TL within an hour and when I watched the video I realised how most just don't care about the message. It's like they treat it as their CSR act lol.
Anyway, Amitabh's well timed Not-so-Pink letter has managed to create the effect he wanted but how I wish he didn'tuse the grand-daughters' name coz this is stooping lower in my eyes. Just pass off a freaking message next time. Making it viral on SNS will be taken care of by the experts nonetheless.

T 2370 - I write a letter to my grand daughters, Navya Naveli & Aaradhya .. indeed to all grand daughters .. !!

I think @bold clarifies when you say it's not about us.
I understand that it is the writer's tone you have a problem with, but the points she has raised is absolutely correct. When AB Sr decided to make the letter public & wrote to ALL granddaughters, he was giving out a message, the letter didn't remain personal anymore. You cannot question the author's right to opinion on a subject that is public now. He's sending out a message, if there is something wrong in it people are allowed to raise the issue because it is sending out a wrong message in her opinion. Amitabh doesn't know everything too, he doesn't know the plight of children who are killed in the name of false pride for their legacy. When you are a public figure, you need to think twice before you send out a message to the public, India has enough issues of its own to sort out. Of course it is his right to opinion, but then so do others.

While I do agree feminists sensationalize everything by finding small faults in everthing people say, but aren't your "sensitivities" affected too when you point out it is just a letter written from a grandpa to his granddaughters. When he made it public, he brought it on himself o be scrutinized. We don't need to make everything an emotional matter, if he has said something wrong it will be pointed out.

The superstar grandpa pens a letter to Navya Naveli and Aaradhya talking about women empowerment. And of course, it has nothing to do with his upcoming film Pink.

D

ear Navya and Aaradhya,

You carry on your tender shoulders a legacy that I'm trying very hard to protect. Your grandfather strived for half a century to make your surname a household name. (Navya, I know your second name is Nanda, but LOL, everyone knows you as a Bachchan. So let's stop pretending for a few minutes.) I have ruled the film industry for as long as one can remember. But in the last four years, my films haven't been setting the box office on fire.Shamitabh was too self-indulgent; it flopped. The movie trailers of Wazirand TE3n were great. Unfortunately, the films weren't. I even tried my hand at television with a mini-series, Yudh, but thankfully nobody remembers that now. Yes, Piku was phenomenal, a massive money-spinner too. But that overachieving woman, Deepika Padukone, took all the credit for it. Women, I tell you.

Be careful and extra cautious around ambitious women who want to conquer the world. They are the most dangerous. They will stop at nothing to make their dreams come true. But don't worry, your grandfather being the self-made man that he is, made his stand very clear. Google "Amitabh Upset with Deepika over Hogging Limelight in Piku", and you will know I put her in her place.

Look, today, the Bachchan surname is at its most vulnerable state. Aaradhya, I'm sorry to say this, but your dad hasn't amounted to much. I tried everything to ensure his career took off. I pulled every string, went to every big production house to get him work. When everything failed, I even made him part of a package deal. It worked for while with Sarkar, Bunty Aur Babli, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. But then the lid got blown off with Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Rann, and Delhi-6. People call me selfish, but come on, you can't risk signing movies with a flop hero and jeopardise your own career, even if that hero happens to be your son. I did it for the family. Somebody had to go out there and earn money to throw Diwali parties for Amar Singh's friends, after all.

Now, kids, my next movie, releasing in 10 days, is very crucial for me. For our family; for our surname. So I'm writing this letter to you guys as part of the movie promotion that's based on sexism and exploitation of women by our country's legal system. My social media agency told me that involving you guys would ensure 100 per cent virality. The movie is called Pink and it's probably my last shot to show the world that your old man still has it in him - to be the solo male lead. I agree, the film is on women empowerment, but honestly, screw that. It's all about the male lead. It's my film. It is to witness my performance that people flock to the theatres.

Don't get fooled by what the world will say about me, after reading my open letter. I don't give a shit about sexism.

This letter is very important for the success of this film. And the film is important for the family. In today's world, it's all about the opening weekend. The hype that can be created around that one weekend determines the film's fate, its satellite rights, digital rights, and its hero's rate in the market, and I've got to admit, the market for 73-year-old heroes isn't what it used to be.

My son is a nice man, but I can't trust him. I don't think he has the ability to guarantee either of you a good first film. So I plan to make enough money with the next few films, to ensure your debuts are secure. You may be upset with me for having used you to go viral, but you will thank me when you will beat Saif's daughter, Sridevi's daughter, and even Pooja Bedi's daughter to bag that great first film. So it's very important that this film works for us, so I can pull some strings to promise you a great debut. As Jerry Maguire said, "Help me help you."

Don't get fooled by what the world will say about me, after reading my open letter. I don't give a shit about sexism. Even you shouldn't. If you do, then it is harmful for your own progress in the film industry. Remember Kangana Ranaut? LOL, you don't right? She used to be an actress in the industry until she accused Hrithik chacha of having an affair and spoke up against Salman chacha's rape remarks. She was really dumb to do that. Come on, with all my clout in this industry, even I kept shut when he compared himself to a rape victim. Also, don't ever ask for equal wages. You will be paid lesser than most actors, please accept it graciously. Have you ever seen me speak up against these issues? Never. I have three bungalows in Juhu, thanks to unequal wages. So speak about sexism only when you have an upcoming movie that addresses the subject. Never otherwise. Do this and you would have done me proud.

With all my love,
Grandfather

I didn't know he was addressing all grand daughters and then talking about his own family legacy. What am I suppose to do with his family legacy. 😆 This even more hillarious.

Amitabh doesn't need to know everyones plight before addressing his own grand daughters. No matter how much one thinks about everything before addressing it they can't cover everything. An adult mind should know that and read it accordingly. But of course that 'to all grand daughters' changes everything. Maybe the whole intent was to bait the feminist crowd and it worked.

P.S: I haven't finished reading the letter.I stopped at skirt lengths.
