EXCLUSIVE Hrithik Roshan: I didnt read up on Mohenjo Daro, Ashutosh

Mohenjo Daro releases in a week and Hrithik Roshan has complete faith in his film. Talking exclusively with IndianExpress.com, Hrithik said he is not bothered with historical inaccuracies in Mohenjo Daro.

Actor Hrithik Roshan whose period drama Mohenjo Daro will release on August 12, says he didn't read anything from history books to prepare himself for the film as he had with him his director Ashutosh Gowariker, who he believe is a moving textbook on the subject. "I didn't read anything about the subject. Because we have with us our director who is like a textbook in himself and whenever I used to have any confusion about the subject, I used to refer to him," said Roshan in an exclusive conversation with IndianExpress.com.

Hrithik, along with the leading lady of the film, Pooja Hegde, was in the national capital on Thursday to promote the movie which is his first release after Bang Bang in 2014. On being asked about the two-year break, Roshan said the detailing required to present Mohenjo Daro led to such a gap.

"Ashutosh has a penchant for detail. His need to be perfect in factual representation took more time than we had planned. And my duty as an actor was to support his vision and support his process so it took a long time," said Roshan who paired up with Ashutosh for the second time after the success of Jodha Akbar, another film based on history, in 2008.

The actor, however, asserted that he was never very interested in history as a subject but he understands its importance. "I was okay in history in school. But I do understand the importance of history now as we should know where we came from and how this world came into existence. It can teach you about the powerful men and the game they played to stay powerful," said Roshan.

He also rejected the criticism over the factual inaccuracies being pointed by the historians in the film, saying he faced the same condemnation during the release of Jodhaa Akbar. "I dealt with historians this time exactly the same way I dealt with them during Jodhaa Akbar. I was then told by many how could I play Akbar who was just 1.7-metre tall, didn't have light eyes and how it's all inaccurate and wrong. But after the film came out, who is asking these question now? We are doing films to entertain people, not to pass on literature. It's not a documentary. If the film is good and people are satisfied and they are going through an emotional journey through the characters, then it will be a big contribution," said Roshan, who completed 16 years in the industry this year.

On his journey so far in Bollywood, the actor says he has no regret and he enjoys the facts that it has been a roller-coaster ride. "I love a roller coaster. So it has been perfect. Fall, up, down " they are a part of a roller-coaster journey. And when the roller-coaster ends, there is a sense of exhilaration in everyone. I don't regret any decision," said Roshan, adding that he still have to do a lot.

The film's leading lady Pooja Hegde has been on a roller-coaster story too. "Sunita Gowariker saw my Scooty ad with Ranbir Kapoor. They called me for the audition and sent Hrithik my pictures and they signed me on. It is a dream come true. If I ever had a checklist for my first film, Mohenjo Daro checks all the boxes," she says.
