You probably gave the best answer to the topic.

It's true every move of the actresses are analyzed and they are criticised no matter what

But it reflects the Indian society in general where a woman is held to much stricter social conduct rule and there is fault wirh everything she does but men are not really paid that much attention

IMO, no. Rewind a few years ago to the infamous KWK where Sonam and Deepika were full of sass and very themselves until they were criticized and even their upbringing was trashed. So she became polite princess and phony. can you blame her, I don't.

On the flip side there is Kajol. Go back 20 years on Youtube and you will see brash, arrogant and don't care what she says. But she is branded rude and crass. Few people call her authentic or praise her for being herself for so many years.

Bebo also ran her mouth when she first came on the scene, Now people like her more because Saif has calmed her 🤔 as if she was a horse not a woman.

I have found more instances of Jaya Bachchan being polite than being rude. She has raised polite kids, Abhi loses his temper when the media pushes him. But somehow she has this reputation of being a shrew and ugly expression pictures always seem to make that she is constantly screaming.

Ash is polite and hides behind layers and is called plastic.

Kangana and Sonam are rude and run their mouth.

Notice a pattern here. All these are women. Where are the criticisms of men ? Is Varun authentic ? Is Sid ? Is Fawad ?

if you are a woman and authentic, show your feelings and outspoken you are rude, if you watch your answers you are called phony and plastic. What is the right balance ? How ridiculous. 🤔

Moi: No, not at all. Though I love your point but the examples given IMO, don't mesh well. Kajol is an obnoxious arrogant brat not because of how she talks, but because of how she behaves. Kangana, gleefully plays the feminist card & happily withdraws it as & when she feels like it. She's a psychotic asshole. Personally, there is little difference inter social values/protocol I hold men & women too since I say it as much for the men as the women but your point, definitely is very, very true. Women are considered "lady-like", "gentle", "polite" so many times my own parents have told me not to shout & scream because it's "not lady-like", others have too & hat definitely has coloured my conduct & around certain people, I feel like I've to walk around egg-shells. I reckon so many women, do not reveal their real natures around family in fear of behavioural & other ridicule. I've noticed with so many women & have been annoyed by them & their behaviour, but also understood it. It's very hurtful & very restrictive if you cannot be yourself with your closest.

But here the question is about an actress, who thrice on a constructed image. The reason why DP received such censure for her KwK IV was because she was always the polite princess. It was the shedding of that mask that people had an issue with, not the appearance of it since it wasn't the first. BW is anyway, the concentrated field of sexism & misogyny because I don't see anyone calling out RK or Salman's upbringing when they're both assholes of a different nature though Salman is Ofc, incomparable to ANYONE. So I wouldn't bother looking for equality esp gender equality, in an industry like BW.

Everybody has a Public face and a Private face. Everyone is a phoney .
I dislike my Fiance's cooking but I politely gulp it up not to make him feel bad.
I am a Phoney

Some customers are very rude to me but I smile and let it be. I can't give it back.
I am a phoney

I have Aunties come up to me and ask stupid questions ( abt amrriage) .i want shout at them but smile let them be while listening to their crap.
I am a phoney.

Going back to the topic.
Yes .She is a Phoney and I for one don't mind her phoniness.
Every actor is phony. But due to xXx special love is being bestowed on Deepika here 😃 😃

Who in the world is genuine? Everybody wears a mask and walks around in the world.

^^ True. Politeness is the most pervasive & yet the first hypocrisy that we are taught. But it is a hypocrisy that is understood & accepted & infact, needed, many a time. Everything is over-rated if not in the correct context.

It explains the whole gender disparity thing in Bollywood as well as not having enough female directors.

MEB, I am talking about consistency, not how Kajol behaves. For 20 years or so, go back and look at old interviews and that is what you see. Kajol constantly interrupts, she's loud, obnoxious, arrogant and she is opinionated. I think it takes great courage for an actress to show that part of herself consistently for so long and not care for public opinion. But few people appreciate that because what they see is Kajol is rude. But I see someone fearless enough to be herself, whatever she is. How many people appreciate that ? If Salman does the same, most say 'Ah Bhai tho Bindaas hain' with appreciation.

Kangy is outspoken. But she is branded manipulative and I agree. And why the hell not ? If she exploited it was for survival in a brutal industry like BW IMO. I have no problem with what she did to people like Aditya Pancholi who is Suraj ka baap. Who knows Kangana could have become a Jiah Khan if not.

One of the famous adjectives used to describe Ash is plastic. She is consistently polite. The one time she was spunky and bordering on rude I believe is to Letterman I can remember and he was asking for it, but she was criticized by one and all and even accused of not representing India well IIRC.

The thing that bugs me is Saif taming /calming Kareena. The scene I think of when I hear it is Hrithik taming the elephant in JA. You use those adjectives for wild animals, an out of control animal not an outspoken woman however rude people think she is.

I can give example after example. As for DP I did not follow her much before, but I did see a distinctive change in her demeanor after that KWK, as in a pulling back and I don't blame her one bit.

As for @Bold, I will until I am blue in the face. It may not work in HW and BW, but change starts because people stand up for what they think is right, not accept the status quo. Mine is just a post on a message board but as insignificant as it is, it is my loud no to the difference in perception of male and female actor actions.

Yeah people are angry with Ranbir.

I think once I saw a petition for him to be jailed for hurting Deepika.

Or public flogging
