Here's some great news for Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh fans. Now, we have heard that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to unveil the first teaser of Padmavati, on Navratri (September 21), on social media, through his stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, his co-producer Viacom 18 and his production house. The story revolves around Rana Ratan Singh of Chittor, his beautiful queen Padmini and the ruthless Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji, who attacked Chittor to get her.

Says a source, "Padmavati has been subject to various speculations - from budget going up to the film getting delayed and the stars delaying the shoot. The first shooting schedule had gone off track a bit, so Bhansali has been shooting around the clock to complete the film. The makers are determined to release it by the end of this year hence they decided to release it this week on September 21 (Thursday). Navratri is a festive occasion and Bhansali himself loves colour and grandness in his films so what better than to release the first teaser on this auspicious occasion which is full of colour, music,singing and dancing much like his films? It will be a 30-second teaser depicting a little bit of the war between Rana Ratan Singh and Alauddin Khilji's armies."

While the film is slated to release on November 17 this year, there's speculation in trade that the film may get postponed to December 1 as some VFX is still left apart from shooting left of the top three stars.

Padmini or Padmavati was an extraordinarily beautiful princess of the Singhal kingdom (Sri Lanka) whom Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Chittor married and brought to Chittor. While Ratan Sen was killed in a war, Padmavati and her companions committed Jauhar (self-immolation) to protect theirhonour, before Alauddin Khilji could capture Chittor.

Ranveer Singh fans, are you prepared for a shock? Deepika Padukone, as Rani Padmini, will not be his sole love interest in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Padmavati. The actor's character Allaudin Khilji is bisexual! And Ranveer, who has admitted to wanting to experiment with every kind of role, is throwing himself into this grey character, not just heart and soul... but the body as well!

Sources say that Ranveer effortlessly plays the bisexual Sultan of Delhi with a touch of evil genius that has to be seen. And playing his lover on screen is the actor Jim Sarbh who was the baddie in Raabta and the main hijacker in Neerja.Jim's character is Malik Kafur who history books say was Khilji's chief advisor and also his lover.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is reported to be fascinated by the love affair that existed between Khilji and Kafur but there was always some doubt whether the filmmaker would explore this side of Khilji's character in Padmavati. Now comes confirmation that he is going ahead. Sources aware of this development said, "Khilji will be shown having feelings for Kafur and Bhansali has shot these scenes in a subtle manner so as not to hurt anybody's sentiments.

According to the 13-century book Tarikh-e-Firozshahi by political thinker Ziya al-Din Barani, Khilji had a weakness for beardless boys. And he was fascinated by the effeminate Kafur and ended up buying him as a slave for a 1,000 Dinars during his conquest of Gujarat. Khilji reportedly had almost 50,000 beardless boys in his harem at the height of his empire.

The same book also documents there was no love between Rani Padmini and Khilji. Though he never actually met the Rajput Queen, one glimpse of her made the Sultan of Delhi fall madly in love. But Padmini, rather than being captured by Khilji, is said to have committed jauhar (self-immolation) with 1,600 other Rajput women.

While Bollywood has toyed with bisexuality before, this is the first time that Ranveer who has women swooning over him will play such a bold role. The actor is unapologetic about his choices. In an interview for the TV show No Filter with Neha Dhupia Season 2, he was candid about playing such roles and said he had no reservations.

Trade sources who are keenly following the rocky process of SLB's Padmavati so far are wondering how the aggressive Rajput caste organization Karni Sena will react to the bisexual love scenes in the film. Its members agitated on Padmavati's sets earlier when a dream sequence not recorded in history was to be shot on Ranveer and Deepika.

Here's why Shahid Kapoor's language coach accompanies him to the dubbing session for Padmavati

While Padmavati has been in the news ever since its announcement, what further added to the surprise was the announcement of Shahid Kapoor as the hero of the film opposite Deepika Padukone. The duo will not only share screen space for the first time but will also be acting as a couple in the film.

The star will essay the role of Deepika Padukone's husband, Raja Ratan Singh, a just ruler and a warrior who gave his all to the battlefield. Shahid, who trained with a language coach before and during the shoot of the film, to get the finer nuances of the language and accent right ,will now have his coach accompany him to the Padmavati dub as well.

A source close to the actor said, "Shahid's prep for Padmavati included training under a language coach since certain dialogues in the film were typical of that period. His coach will also be with him while he's dubbing for the film so that he aces the accent and sounds authentic. "Shahid's role in Padmavati promises to be his career's finest. He is going all out for the film, as he essays the role of the hero and has been looking into the minutest details with complete attention and dedication, added the source.

Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh as the antagonist, ruler Alauddin Khilji who gets obsessed with the beauty of Rani Padmini aka Padmavati and decides to wage a war against their kingdom. While the film was expected to release this year, due to certain hindrances and obstacles the release has been pushed further to next year.

Why so homophobic? And why bring religion card here? How is Alauddin Khilji being bisexual going to appease 'a lot of people' (Hindus)? Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I gathered from your post.

What remains till date, a matter of argument is Alauddin Khilji's sexuality. Many historians claim that the ruthless Khilji ruler was bisexual and a paedophile. During his reign, Alauddin declared himself to be The Prophet. He even went to the extent of forced Qazis, into manipulating religious approvals suiting his whims and fetishes.

And, one fact which remained well-guarded until recently, is the involvement of Indian-born general Malik Kafur in his personal life. According to Devdutt Pattanaik, Once during his visit to the famous slave market Baccha Bazi' in Gujarat, Alauddin purchased Malik, after being left mesmerised by his beauty.

The concept of Baccha Bazi' was injected into the Indian borders from Afghanistan, which rapidly spread across the nation. Foreign invaders bought child slaves or men dancers dressed like women, for their pleasure and entertainment.

Although, several historians share diverging thoughts on this fact, but they do not deny the origin and existence of Baccha Bazi in India. Jayasi's folklore, which sings praises for the beauty of Queen Padmavati and the valor of Chittor's warrior, also mentions Alauddin Khilji's heterosexual personality.

According to Jayasi's poen, Alauddin's lust for his sexual passions, had reached such a level that it is said his harem had more than 70,000 males, females and children. Of which, 30,000 women, were the widows of men that he killed in one day.

Alauddin groomed Malik Kafur as his sexual protg and chief advisor. It is said that it was Alauddin's strategy to attack Chittor and capture all the 7000 women inside including Queen Padmavati. He intended to make her his royal consort.

Queen Padmavati and all the women, decided to commit Jauhar, rather than becoming slaves or part of Alauddin's harem. It is said that the heart-wrenching wails coming out from the Jauhar Kund, continued to haunt Khilji for years.

While this impacted his mental health, his lover Malik Kafur tried with all his might to take over his place and order policies and rulings, on Khilji's behalf; until latter's official advisors interfered and reminded him that rightfully Khilji's sons must take the throne.

I'm no expert on history but a simple google search yielded this.
