Sonu Nigam is much much better singer than nasal Kumar Sanu. But Kumar Sanu got much better songs to sing than Sonu. Early 90s (after Amitabh's macho era ended) was one of the best period in music. Kishore Kumar had died few years earlier and singer's slot was vacant. Kumar Sanu seized the opportunity. It was just timing.

I think Sonu sings in more romantic way . .BTW the songs of kumar sanu are also amazing

NO OFFENCE , just comparison. Sonu is good singer, but romance king for many from 90s will always be Kumar Sanu

sorry freind but kumar sanu could not modulate his voice have been hearing him since 90's ... Woh expressions nhi de paya shanu which sonu give he romance the song sun zara soniye sun zara kumar cant sing this with as depth as sonu did...filmfare dont count at all even himesh have ...kumar sanu all songs are so identicle and predictable... Listen to saansien ghulne lagi of jhon bipasha film by sonu kitna doob kar gaya hai ... Shanu never can sing with such soothing feel as i know all his songs...gaana aur doob ke ganay main farq hai the feel sonu give is simply out of this world... Kumar sanu can sing romantic but Sonu Nigam can sing intense romantic

Sonu in term songs had much more variety... Kumar sanu sang similar repitative tunes all his carrier . Sonu have sang those typical dholak tabla songs as well as songs like kal ho na ho, do pal ruka, sau dard hain, sun zara, apna mujhe tu laga, abhi mujh main kahin, allah maaf kare, falak dekhoon zameen dekhoon, zoobie doobie, jane nahi dange tujy , sapna jahan dastak na de, kismat se tum humko mele ho, jeene ka hain chaar din ... Sonu had more diverse songs... Kumar sanu was monotonus could not sang out of his comfort zone

For you even Mukesh shaab will be Nasal... but during 50s-70s it was trinity - Kishore, Rafi & Mukesh Shaab whole ruled ...along with Lataji & Ashaji

Similar happened in 90s - It was Kumar Sanu & Udit ruling male while Alka & Anuradhaji ruling female. Sonu made very late entry in 90s.

Every singer has his/her typical genre of songs which fits the bill perfectly & For romantic songs, it was always Kumar Sanu.

To me, voice quality is important to respect a singer. Agree with you on Mukhesh being nasal singer. Also, he had a limited range. Because of this, he was never compared with the leagues of Rafi, despite of delivering great songs in RK banner.

Himesh, Atif Aslam, all these people... I do enjoy their songs. But I will not call them great singers.

I still feel, early 90s had great music (copied may be) and mediocre singers. We can only wish, if Kishore Kumar had lived for another 10 years or Sonu Nigam was born 10 years earlier. Right now, old is gold. So all these singers are respected. (Mind you, they were not held great even during their hey days. Kumar Sanu was always condemned by critics).

I love Sonu. He is the best!

But romantic vote goes to Kumar Sanu. His melodious songs list is just too long & some of the irreplaceable stuff there.
