Abhishek Bachchan gets Salman, Iulia on the dance floor
Love was in the air at Preity Zinta and Gene Goodenough's wedding reception hosted at a Lower Parel five-star on Friday evening. One of the country's most eligible bachelors, 50-year-old superstar Salman Khan arrived with Romanian model-girlfriend, Iulia Vantur, riding in the back seat with sister Alvira and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, lending credence to rumours that they were engaged and gearing up for an October wedding.
It was 12:30 am, and on the 38th floor celebs were partying in full swing, with Karan Johar waxing eloquent about Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan, who would be launched in the Student of the Year sequel. Stylist Adhuna Bhabani was chatting away with ex-husband Farhan Akhtar's mother, Honey Irani, with whom she arrived. Music baron Bhushan Kumar was munching on some starters, while gorgeous wife Divya Khosla Kumar in an olive gown and diamond choker held court. Madhuri Dixit and her doctor hubby Sriram Nene were in and out in the blink of an eye and parent-to-be Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput made a guest appearance, walking handin-hand. The newly-weds complimented Mira on her glowing complexion, wished the couple happy parenthood, and they were gone. Zip, zap, zoom! Abhishek Bachchan whose better half, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was all gold gauze on the Cannes red carpet in her 15th appearance at the French Riviera, was on his way out when he bumped into Sallu. He greeted bhai with a jadoo ki jhappi and allowed himself to be dragged back to the party. The two grooved till 3:00 am. Junior B's KANK co-star, Shah Rukh Khan, arrived around 2 am and joined the duo. Yuvraj Singh and fiancee Hazel Keech, after a quick chat with Sallu, were also hitting fours and sixes on the dance floor. The only one missing in action was Hrithik Roshan, who much to Preity's disappointment chose to give her big night a miss despite being in town. The gentleman's club consisting of R Madhavan, Dino Morea, Abhay Deol, Abhishek Kapoor and Bobby Deol looked suave as they sipped their drinks and made small talk with Juhi Chawla and Lara Dutta who came with husband, tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi , perfectly colour coordinated. Along with Lara, another former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen , shone in a floor-length black skirt and golden stilettoes.
The bride chose red, her favourite colour, on a Manish Malhotra gown. Stylist Tanya Ghavri had hand-picked the choodas, scarlet pumps and matching lipstick. While Preity was all sunshine, her American hubby was quietly sober in a tux, with his arm around his wife at all times."He didn't talk much, admitting that he hadn't realised how big a star Preity is and had been rendered virtually speechless," a guest pointed out.
Selfies were strictly no-no since the bride had decided to exclusively share pictures from the inside with a charitable organisation for a worthy cause. But actress Sophie Choudry and fitness expert Deanne Panday ignored the request and were busy clicking pics with fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, Farah Khan Ali and her husband DJ Aqeel.
There were six different cuisines and the drinks flowed. The naach-gaana playlist was a mix of Bollywood, Psy-trance and PZ's favourite English chartbusters. A live DJ was playing on request and naturally, "Where's the party tonight" played on too.
