Box office alone and that too one film does not define a career or a legacy. Mera Naam Joker was a dream of Raj Kapoor and a flop, it made him go into massive debt. But a cinephile like me has met people older than me who sing 'Mera Jhoota Hain Japani'. In many cases, these are people from the former Soviet Union, speak accented English, who emigrated to US and whose parents played Raj Kapoor movies and music growing up. That is the power of a legacy.

There are many actors, perhaps better, many with more box office credentials and more popular in India. But internationally there are few names that stand out and come to be the face of BW. Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, SRK are the few are among them. Ash is one of the few women. It is the reason why CNN USA had headline running on the screen multiple times when she got married. It is certainly not for Abhishek. People can argue about the reasons, go through the accomplishments, debate the fairness of it, but not every movie star is created equal nor is their legacy the same.

Thanks BI for this. I have DVR'ed this but a nice lunch time watch now.

and Thankyou for this😛😆...a career of 25 years...never slipping from the top 3 in 25 years...and people are seriously looking at BO numbers even now...just look at AB Sr...has he been relegated to the back seat just because his movies are now failing mostly?? Nah...because his reputation has been sealed...same with the Khans...jisne pichhle 25 saalo mein jo kiya hai...all that will determine their legacy..😛
