the story which seemed really dark doesnt appeal generally to me but the music and the whole feel...its got some sort of attraction...the thing is most people already know the story...so it doesnt hv that to pull audience in and i know Abhishek wasnt going for 100 or 200 crore, he wanted to make a movie giving his take on it...and i love what he has done so far, most producers start getting restrictions from their distributors or producers ki yeh masala daal do or woh effect ke liya daal do..

i pray no one who wants a masala film will go in with those kind of unrealistic expectations and blast the film afterwards..i hope enough of the niche audience who the film was made for will see it to make it a hit and induce other directors to do similar stuff

See if the movie is good it will perform. Indian audiences have become quite discerning that way. Even Kai Po Che worked despite not being a masala film. There are so many examples of commercially successful non-masala movies in the past 1 year itself like Talvar, Badlapur and Piku.

As long as Gattu does not make it as convoluted as Tamasha was I think the movie has a fair chance of being successful. The story has everything going for it.

P.S. I also do not think its a niche product since its a love story at its core and that too unrequited which masses are bound to sympathise with.

P.P.S If VB's dark Shakespearean adaptations are getting commercial success then definitely the boundaries between the tastes of the niche and mass audience is reducing.

_____________

Well, i hope so.

quote "which masses are bound to sympathise with. "

that made me visualise masses of people walking around being unrequited in love, and therefore sympathising with the film.😆

It went to a good space..im hoping the film will follow.
Gathering - your example of Piku is good one. It gives me hope.

But Talvar and Badlapur i think may have been easier to recover costs..i dont think they had high production costs as this one seems to have..i dont think Kat or Adi might hv demanded too high fees keeping in consideration their present stock..and the film being a coveted one from UTV banner but the visuals are beautiful, the locations cant hv come cheap and all the Rekha delays may hv skewered the budget a bit.
