Deepika Padukone's take on her on-screen pairing with ex Ranbir and current beau Ranveer

Bajirao Mastani is running to packed theatres. The film has won the hearts of people and the collections are growing with every passing day. Sanjay Bhansali's lead pair's intense passion on screen is finding several takers. Whatever it is they bring to the screen " their real-life romance or their take on the characters themselves " is something special. So can we finally settle the argument and decide that the Deepika-Ranveer jodi trumps Deepika-Ranbir? Not so fast...

Just two weeks before Ranveer and Deepika's Bajirao Mastani, it was all about Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and their easy chemistry in Tamasha and during the promotions of the film. The jodi that delivered Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani looked great together on screen.

Both are different

Ask Deepika about it and she says, "The same people, who three weeks ago, were saying that Ranbir and I are the next Shah Rukh and Kajol, are the same people who are saying I have great chemistry with Ranveer in Bajirao Mastani! I keep saying that as actors you can only be as good as your film. I will say it again " YJHD was very different from Ram-Leela, Tamasha is very different from Bajirao Mastani. What Ranbir has delivered in YJHD and Tamasha as an actor and the energies that he had to give as an actor, is very different from what Sanjay Leela Bhansali has demanded from Ranveer in Bajirao Mastani and Ram Leela " which has more sensuous and earthy energy for all our characters. So you really can't compare and say which chemistry is better."

She adds, "I am glad that today people can talk about my chemistry with a Ranbir and a Ranveer. In fact, people even mentioned my chemistry with Irrfan in Piku. I was shocked when I saw the film and even Shoojit remarked on our chemistry! Many people wrote to us saying that can Piku 2 be made on Rana and Piku's romance? I find that amazing! Of course one shouldn't make a Piku 2 for the heck of doing it unless it lends itself to it. Chemistry is what you give of yourself on screen. To end this matter, since my options on my favourite pair is Ranbir and me or Ranveer and me, I will say I am choosing Irrfan. I think I have the best chemistry with Irrfan Khan! Piku was such a special movie and a film I am so proud of."

Deepika-Ranbir are

the ultimate jodi

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor is a jodi created in heaven. Even if they just stand together on or off screen, they look great together. Their last film may not have been a box-office success, but their on-screen chemistry in the film was undeniable and their performances fabulous. Of course, Ranveer Singh while playing the role of Bajirao has improved tremendously as an artiste, but I will still prefer the Ranbir-Deepika pair as it's the audience's first choice. If Imtiaz Ali takes Alia Bhatt opposite Ranbir for his next, he will be making a big mistake. Deepika is undoubtedly the queen of the box and she will be for the next five years. Anyone not pairing Deepika with Ranbir in a film is committing a sin.

Ranveer has an edge over Ranbir

If you go by Friday collections, you are as good or as bad as your last film and the Ranbir-Deepika pair has not tasted success with Tamasha. Ranveer-Deepika had two hits " Ram-Leela, which was a 100-crore grosser and Bajirao Mastani, whose word-of-mouth is terrific. The film is getting accolades, doing well and their chemistry is terrific, too. So box-office wise, Ranveer definitely has an edge over Ranbir, as far as the pairing with Deepika is concerned. YJHD was a big hit and set a benchmark, so people draw comparisons and expect the Ranbir-Deepika pair to do better than the'180 crore business that YJHD did. Today there are more screens, everything is more expensive including the ticket prices, so when Tamasha did less than '70 crore, it was shocking. But I must add that while Deepika pairs off very well with Ranveer, the magic is less in the Ranbir-Deepika pair.

DP works well with both

I like both pairs equally. Though both films starring the Deepika-Ranveer jodi clicked at the BO, in the case of the Ranbir-Deepika pair, one clicked (YJHD) while the other (Tamasha) didn't. In Tamasha, while the script didn't work, their chemistry as well as their performances were to die for! Deepika was brilliant in all the four films and the chemistry was brilliant even in Tamasha. People may have liked or disliked the film, but they can't say that their chemistry wasn't working.
