So I revisited this movie today while working out. If I remember correctly, it didn't do too well when it came out. Why? It was such a beautifully written movie. Especially the portrayal of a father-in-law who treats his daughter in law as his own daughter. Most every girl eventually gets married and her husband's parents become hers too. Her husband died, and her father-in-law took a step that not many father -in-laws would do. I think the relationship was beautifully portrayed. John and Rani as friends was okay, but I just didn't dig them in a relationship and eventually husband/wife. But other than that one small thing, the movie was perfect. Why do you guys think it didn't do so well? Is it because its unrealistic? Most BW movies are. Everyone acted well. Songs were nice. Story was great and relatable to most girls. So, what happened?

Believe me or not, but I fell asleep in the cinema (first time ever) watching this movie. It was a borefest. Also I was so tired of seeing Rani crying her eyes out in every movie from 2006-2007. It did her no favours, and she soon drifted out of the Top 3 at this point.

My post involves spoilers so if you haven't seen baabul don't read

I don't know I thought it was a nice enjoyable family movie except for how Salman dies . That was so fake 😆😆. Even the songs were very lovely 😳 It came 2 weeks after Dhoom 2 and 2 weeks before Bhagam Bhaag . So maybe somewhere it got lost in the shuffle . The theme might've kept some people say . Tho a flop in India it did reasonably well outside of India so there's that 😛

The movie gave a very good message and I applaud that. I especially loved the final scene for what it was trying to convey. But other than that I didn't care much for the film. The screenplay should've been more engaging for the audience to actually enjoy. Even the actors involved failed to bring their A-game imo. They're capable of giving much better performances and that includes John (I believe he can be very good given the correct director).

I have faint memories of the film. Watched it during the time it released. I didnt really like it. The movie does send out a good message but its too melodramatic even for 2006.

As you said my biggest problem with the film was that I didnt really ship john and rani's character...Zilch chemistry.. I coudnt care less if they got together at the end or not.

I do remember john's role being offered to loads of other actors first. Maybe the film would have worked out better if the role had someone else

I am in love with Salman now. His performance in that 2006 movie Baabul was shockingly cute and underrated. His chemistry with Rani was off the...
