It's very hard to say with an American TV show, and on ABC that too. One can't predict based on PC's starpower or the promotions. I am not saying it is always the good shows that work and bad ones that don't, but it really depends on the reviews and how much audience likes the pilot. Predictions can only be made on how it fares in the 4-episode test. So we will have to wait for 2 months to find an answer to this question.

Valid point. For now, looking at the trailer, I don't think Quantico has that factor to make it work. It looks cliched and typical. It also remains to be seen whether the American audience would accept an Indian lead, since the majority of their exposure to Indian characters is through the Apus and the Rajs.

From what I can see, Quantico might last a season or two. If it turns out to be a hit, I will be pleasantly surprised. It might be an average-ratings show like The Mindy Project, maybe.

American audience is pretty open to leads other than whites so I don't think the race should be a problem. As for the rest, like I said, I really can't say now. I am awful at predicting which freshman show will work and which won't based on trailers.

It took them a long time to accept Hispanic and black leads, so I don't know whether there is some gestation period for them to accept a South Asian lead. The depictions of brown characters on American TV tend to be very stereotypical, so let's hope PC breaks the glass ceiling. Although, playing an FBI agent mistaken for a terrorist might not be the best bet to do that. 😆

@bold: True but because they've accepted these now, I feel newer races won't have as much trouble being accepted. For Americans there are two kinds of people: Americans and non-Americans. Which kind of outsider doesn't often matter so I am expecting it won't in this case either.

As for stereotyping, well, apparently PC plays an American with only half-Indian descent in the show anyway so I don't see her breaking any mould. See what I mean by doesn't matter which kind of outsider? They pass off anyone as anyone really and have often received criticisms for it.

I don't know. Hard to say. It depends on when it's on. Last I heard it was Sunday night which makes it opposite Football games at least till February. So there goes all the guys and a good chunk of women as far as demographics go. Typically it has been shows like Grays Anatomy or that Housewives series that worked on Sunday nights, in other words, shows that falls into the chic flick category.

If the show fails it won't be because Priyanka is Indian. It will probably be because people just didn't like the plot. It seems like within one or two episodes she becomes a suspect and spends the rest of the season proving her innocence. A lot rides on the writing. Audiences can get bored if the single episode plots aren't engaging enough.

Pilot is getting really good reviews
All critics have been praising the cast and its not 'intelligent' Homeland kinda show, its typical ABC guilty pleasure
Whatever have I read pilot has twists after twists after twists - something people love as drama (reason why Scandal has such fan following)

Besides that ABC is promoting it ALL OVER THE PLACE! Like heavily, fact that they shifted the show to Sundays kinda shows the trust they have in the show - So I feel it will survive one more season

So it has very high possibility of working

But having said that TV is unpredictable like shit... So never know
