Why did the early 2000's actors fail?

There were SO MANY actors and actresses who debuted in the first decade of the 2000's especially the first half 5 years. IMO Hrithik, Kareena, Katrina and Priyanka are the only ones who are successful from that era, with Shahid and Bipasha barely making it.

What happened to John, Amrita rao, Dia Mirza, Tushar kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Esha Deol, Abhay Deol, Uday Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan,Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma,Lara Dutta etc etc? How come that generation X was not accepted by audiences at all?

The current generation - which is Ranbir, DP, Varun, Anushka, Kangana- on the other hand is actually able to provide a solid takkar to the 90's stars.

But I think no decade has seen such a massive failiure of big names, star kids as the first decade of the 2000's. These are mostly stars born in the late 70's and early 80's. Any reasons?

Discuss.

I sometimes wonder the same too. Most probably the Khans were raging strong during that time. People were still stuck in the nostalgia of the 90's. So the newbies couldn't make a mark. Now the Khans have slowed down not in terms of star power or mass appeal but in terms of the number of movies they do. Khans come up with only the festival releases. The audiences have to watch the movies of the new actors during the rest of the year.

There are so many others tho. Vivek Oberoi, Zayed Khan, Tulip Joshi, Dino Morea, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Ameesha Patel, Ayesha Takia, Fardeen Khan (kinda). Most of them had a very thanda screen presence. As far as I remember, most of them used to star in multistarrers and that didn't do anything much for their careers.

I would not say Abhay Deol a failure. He got some success
His careeer is dibli dabli
His one movie is shelved,So for some time he is not in news.He is still doing movies
He is not top commercial actor.
His low budget movies are good enough to watch
I never consider him as top actor just like Nawajudin siddique,Rajkumar Rao,Irfan, manoj bajpai etc

But in 90's there were a whole bunch of them who did well, not just 2-3. It wasn't just the Khans- there were Akki, Ajay, Govinda, Saif as well among heroes. Among heroines there were Kajol, Madhuri, Juhi, Sonali, Tabu, Urmila, Manisha, and Karisma - followed by Rani, Preity, Aishwarya -all created a niche of their own.
Just see the quantitative difference between them and the actors of the 2000's. they all sustained for 10 years, at least, whereas the 2000 stars just faded out in no time

No talent, no good looks, bad choice of movies, and just some bad luck. I think for all of them it is some variation or combination of these. In some cases maybe all of the above.

Abhishek Bachchan and Amrita Rao are the two that are most surprising to me as I do feel that both have talent. Also they definitely had a period of success. Abhishek was actually doing pretty good in the mid 2000s. Amrita Rao had success in both traditional girly role in Vivaah and a modern rebel in MHN. I'm not sure why she disappeared.

Vivek Oberois's niche was not lead roles. He had better success with negative, or anti hero roles. But he had the typical ambitions of wanting to be a big hero and just didn't succeed. I don't know if other than Saathiya any of his other roles as the romantic lead succeeded.

John Abraham I think is moderately successful. Isn't he part of the Houseful and Welcome franchises?

Rani, Preity and Aishwarya despite making their debut in late 90's peaked in early 2000's. They were better actors, lookers and worked with A-listers. The newbie actresses had no chance against them.

So basically I feel Khans and these 3 actresses in particular destroyed the careers of others. 😆
