Any movie which does well for an actors resume can be considered a success for him. Swades was a flop but it was the film that got SRK so much appreciation as an actor.

Na i actually agree you need success & BO numbers in order to remain relevant in Bollywood..Look at Ranbir..Ppl even doubt his acting abilities just because he delivered a disaster 😆 Nothing succeeds like success in Bollywood..But my point is, a good role & a great performance in an average grosser can do so much more to your career than an ATBB can IMO..Look what Haider did to Shahid..That is exactly why i said i don get why there is so much emphasis on a film being a clean hit/ a BB..Its true that even good performances are ignored if your film flops ( Lootera for example) but it is also true that at this stage, a Haider can do so much more to your career than a film like Bang Bang ever can ..Either ways, all this only applies to the younger lot..Am not even talking about the Khans here 😆

Ranveers biggest disadvantage was not do Urban characters early in his career to increase his young fan following and that he done less amount of movies in a year while all the other actors done one movie after another. Between every movie he has a long gap especially at the beginning of his career and even now. He has almost 2 releases in a year. The collections means a lot now but later you will remember the characters if they were well acted. In Ranveers case out of his now 7 movies in 5 years people will remember him still for Bitto, Ram, people who actually watched Lootera loved Varun and now Kabir. And most people after watching him as Kabir are wondering how he changed from a Bitto or a Ram to a Kabir now. Even when he didnt have declared Hits showing this kind of versatility and range in each of his characters impresses people and stays with them. But in general you dont know what helps a movie to be not declared average or flop. It starts with a controlled budget, then chartbusters songs are required, so if the trailer impresses that its good and for the long run of course the story and WOM. For some movie it works for others not. I dont believe in this whole Starpower thing. The young actors nowadays have to bee soo good at acting that audiences have to think while watching okay its a really really bad movie but that actor kind of lives it up and its still worth it to watch it till the end. And i think nobody right know can bring that on table to act better than what it is written on paper and the aura to only watch them no matter how terrible the movie is. The Khans are the only one who have that kind of aura on screen to bear any kind of movie.
