Priyanka Chopra worked hard for 'Mary Kom', but Kangana Ranaut deserved to win National Award for 'Queen': Darshan Kumar

New Delhi: Filmmaker Omung Kumar might not have been in India when his directorial debut 'Mary Kom' won National Award in Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category, but his win was discussed, celebrated and made headlines across the nation.
Currently in Kuala Lumpur, Omung couldn't contain his excitement when the news of his film, which put forth the struggles and achievements of the five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, was shared with him. "I'm sitting in Malaysia right now and getting to know this news from people, and I couldn't understand first as to did we get nominated or did we win, and then finally when I came to know that it really happened, I just couldn't believe it. It's a dream come true for a debut director. Thank you all for your support," he was quoted as saying.
Actor Darshan Kumaar, who made his Bollywood debut with 'Mary Kom', feels the film gave an interesting blend of all elements needed to help it stand out and win National honour. "'Mary Kom' is a complete package of content, performances and perfect direction, which is why it stood out," he told us.

Amidst all the adulation and respect that has been given to the cast and director of 'Mary Kom', Darshan spoke to us about the importance of the real-life Boxing champion. "I have always praised the real Mary Kom and I thank her once again for this win. Her achievements and passion for boxing, despite the obstacles she faced, all of it is worth a salute. Our film would not have been made and earned recognition it did without her."
Much like her 'Mary Kom' co-star Priyanka, Darshan too congratulates Kangana Ranaut for winning the best actress honour at the 62nd National Film Awards. "Priyanka Chopra's dedication and hard work has always been appreciated. She had put her heart and soul into the film. Yes, she is worth winning the National Award, but we can't miss Kangana. She was brilliant in 'Queen' and deserves it completely."
On being asked for his reaction to Priyanka's congratulatory tweet, "I hate losing. But if I had to take a back seat to anyone this year it would be U #KanganaRanaut ! Congratulations! (sic)," which explained Bollywood isn't just about rivalries, he said , "Our film industry is like a family, we love and respect each other. There is healthy, balanced competition which is good for Cinema."
