So saw the movie again with my friend after watching parts of MTH earlier, and I appreciated Varun's dedication even more this time.

Nawazuddin had better lines and the more entertaining role of the two, in no way am I diminishing Nawaz's effort but Varun needed a certain body language to make the character more authentic, even the slightest OTT reactions from Varun would have distracted audiences from the plot, and if he had not got the "broody" part right, he would have looked extremely bored on the screen. He just needs to work a bit on his dialogue delivery.

Badlapur has emerged as a good success of the season. After a series of failed films week after week, industry was getting jittery and there was a solid thought that the next big success would come up only after the World Cup finals. However, just when it seemed like a hopeless scenario, an Adult rated film like Badlapur hit the screens and ended up emerging as a profitable venture for all involved.

If the weekend was good, the weekdays stayed consistent as well, hence resulting in around 37 crores coming in at the end of the week. Now these are good results indeed for the Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer as one would have expected a total like this to be earned during the film's lifetime run, considering its dark and disturbing theme. However, now that the film has been accepted by the audience, and there is not much competition in next couple of weeks either, 50 crore is a given for Badlapur.

With this, Varun Dhawan has now kept his record intact and is now the only youngster from his generation to score four straight successes in a row, what with Student of the Year, Main Tera Hero and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya being earning affairs as well.

As for Irrfan Khan's Qissa, there was zero buzz around its release and disappeared without making any noise whatsoever.

BO update: New releases fail to impress; Badlapur holds strong

This week's releases went in for a last minute shuffle with Ganesh Acharya's HEY BRO being postponed to release a week later. However the other two releases DUM LAGA KE HAISHA and AB TAK CHHAPPAN 2 have failed to entice the audience.

Reports suggest that both films have opened below average with morning shows featuring 15-20% occupancy rate across the country. While not much was expected from either release, this less than desirable start has given an added impetus to the collections of BADLAPUR that released last week.

Overall, though DUM LAGA KE HAISHA that has received a few good reviews is expected to fare better than AB TAK CHHAPPAN 2, both will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth to post decent collections. On the other hand, the weekend will in all likelihood be dominated by Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's BADLAPUR.
