Personally, I feel very sorry for Karan Johar. This was the first time I saw him engage in extreme self deprecating humor and also seemed a lot more at ease with his sexuality.
I've never disliked Karan. He's always been in the closet and very subdued about his sexuality because of the industry he is in. Despite having big gun friends like SRK, I don't think he ever felt comfortable coming out or even expressing his sexuality a bit more openly. He overcompensates by his cattiness and controversy stirring methods.
This younger lot may be crass and rude. They may be persona non grata to several Indians. Even I dislike Ranveer for his uncouthness and hyper behavior. However, the undeniable fact is that they also make Karan seem more comfortable for who he is. This was the first time I saw him happy and comfortable in his own skin. He was joking about his sexuality with ease.
It is sad that friends who once basked under Dharma Productions are now shying away when Karan needs help. Maybe industry wise Karan is doomed now (although we know tides can change in an instant). But from a personal standpoint I hope Karan has finally made friends who accept him for who he is, not the diva who he pretends to be.
