Kiran Bedi still has respect. 40 years of record does not get flushed out based on few stupid remarks in media. She was never with AAP. BJP is the first party she joined. She was part of India against corruption with Kejriwal.

SRK might have many qualities but he is currently not as popular as Salman in India. So what is the surprise if he did not feature in the list?

SRK's award show acts are no longer novel for people, his TV shows never clicked except for ones he did before entering films and IPL is not as hot property now as it was earlier. His films have been lagging behind Aamir's and Salman's in recent times. Maybe people find Salman fresh who was never that exposed to media earlier compared to SRK who is always in public eye since 90s. A Being Human or Satyamev Jayate will always be respected more than multi crore business ventures because an average person sees it as noble.

Sometimes people get bored of same person or rediscover another old favourite. Tastes keep fluctuating.

Salman - most admired

just goes to show ..

have a series of hits, do some tv shows which also are hits, start a charity

and all your sins are forgiven..including one of running over and killing

poor pavement dwellers...nothing succeeds like success

aakhir mein, what is the worth of those poor sods?

the poll has spoken..its own language

but is it the truth?

Why such hurt over a poll? All would be well if SRK had topped it?

People admire certain qualities. It doesn't mean they espouse all actions. Voting for SRK would mean they justify abusing a guard at cricket stadium, threatening a journo at his house, slapping friend's husband at party, buying awards, building illegal ramps on roads etc? No. Similarly voting for Salman doesn't mean they support him for his court cases also.

Currently Salman and Aamir are better placed in India and that is true though probably hard to digest for fans of SRK.

If you and other SRK fans were so concerned then you should have voted too. Bookmark YouGov and make sure your role model wins next time.

Ormax, Forbes India, India Today all have Salman ahead of SRK in 2014. Expert based or public voting based lists, SRK is not exactly topping all lists this year. So some indication of direction of public opinion is there. Now up to people to accept it as truth or not.

SRK has won many polls in past so I wonder why his not featuring in a certain poll is such an issue!

The responses of few in this thread speak volumes on ignorance.

Anyone who knows about India would never ask who Kiran Bedi is. First woman IPS officer of India, felicitated by UN, winner of several awards, idol of billions and a Magsaysay Award winner. Now CM candidate in Delhi from BJP.
She has been winning Most admired woman of India polls by all national media outlets since 70s!

This is just one of the many lists she featured in. Yet it's asked who is she!

Kailash Sathyarthi is Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2014. He is all over media since his win. But I guess some don't follow news about own country.

Modi topping is no surprise. He is insanely popular. More than any film star as of last 1 year.

Sonia must have featured because she's still the only one holding Gandhi family legacy together and still the most powerful in Congress. Rahul is bashed more for being an unworthy heir.

Warren Buffet had visited India last year or so and interacted with college students too. Internet savvy populace does know about him.

Katrina gets votes because the fact that she came from nowhere and didn't even know language but still succeeded attracts people.

Kareena has the lineage and is married to royalty, glamorous and famous - it must have made her seem aspirational

Salman Khan tops Ormax surveys too. It's a fact he is liked. Being Human has a lot to do with it besides his bindaas attitude, looks and style.

That said people should have gotten online and voted for their favs. No point in getting riled up now.

Though it's funny how internet polls are legit in case own fav wins but are laughable or unbelievable if one's fav doesn't feature at all.
😆

Well written! :)

I was surprised seeing Kareena myself but your point makes sense😃

One made his name as co-founder of the largest software corporation in the world. The other made hers as a Hollywood superstar. Together, this massive study by YouGov can reveal that Bill Gates and Angelina Jolie are the most admired man and woman in the world.

Since retiring as chairman of Microsoft, Gates has donated billions of dollars of his wealth to causes like expanding educational opportunity and eliminating extreme poverty around the world, mostly through a foundation he founded with his wife, Melinda Gates. Jolie, who previously built a career as one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, has also made a name promoting humanitarian causes, including serving as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Lower on the list is a mix of world leaders, sports stars and other celebrities.

US President Barack Obama comes in second, but Chinese President Xi Jinping is close behind. Xi has a massive domestic fanbase as leader of the world's most populous country. He ranks highly only in China - while Obama places in nearly every country's top 10 - but it is nevertheless a sign of the rising prominence of the fast-growing country in the global picture.

Among the women, Pakastani education activist Malala Yousafzai comes second. Last year, the 17-year old became the youngest person in history to win a Nobel Prize (she won it for Peace). Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton comes in third - welcome news for someone who's reportedly interested in becoming the next leader of the free world. Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, the world's longest-reigning monarch, comes fourth.

Of course, admiration isn't only afforded to world leaders and humanitarians. Popular Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan scored highly across Asia, enough to make him the fourth-most admired man in the world - even ahead of Narendra Modi, the recently elected Prime Minister of India. Physicist Stephen Hawking, the subject of a recent Oscar-nominated biopic, comes in seventh. Footballer David Beckham comes in ninth, tied with billionaire investor Warren Buffet and narrowly ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pope Francis.

Celebrity is also a powerful source of admiration in the women's top 20. Singer Celine Dion and actress Julia Roberts are higher on the list than Myanmar politician Aung San Suu Kyi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The top 20 also includes Julia Roberts (9), Taylor Swift (12) and Beyonc Knowles (17).

COUNTRY BY COUNTRY

David Beckham is everywhere, so much more popular than messy even after his retirement
