Exclusive: I could have stayed in my comfort zone, making crores with TV serials: Gurmeet Choudhary
January 26, 2015 AK 154 reads 0 commentsGurmeet Choudhary, one of Indian TV's most popular actors, will soon be making his debut on the silver screen with Khamoshiyaan'. The film, an erotic, triangular love story with supernatural elements, is his launch on to the big screen under the Vishesh Films banner. He has signed a 3-film deal with the production company. When asked about his decision to move to films as a risk, after being an established, well-paid TV face, Gurmeet gave us a surprisingly honest insight into his journey in acting. "I have started my career with roles where all I needed to mouth was 1 line. That's how I began on TV. I used to take up any work that came my way, and used to be paid all of 300-400 rupees a day. I decided to keep trying for a decent break, and have had to wait for sometime. I remember, that Sagar films discovered me accidentally. The camera caught me just by chance, in a fleeting movement in another actor's show reel. That's how I landed Ramayan." Gurmeet met his wife Debina on the sets of a South Indian TV series. But love blossomed over time. The couple tied the knot in 2011. Having seen success as an actor with Ramayan', and Punar Vivah', he moved to reality shows like Nach Baliye', Jhalak Dikhla Jaa' season 5 and the adrenaline ride, Khatron Ke Khiladi'. "There's also been a time when I had become the highest paid TV actor of all time. I could have stayed in my comfort zone, making crores with serials. But I always wanted to act in films. Therefore, I treasure this opportunity to act in a Vishesh Films production, irrespective of all other factors." During his tenure as a TV star, Gurmeet has been offered other scripts too. He is drawing some currently as well. But his prefers to work with the Bhatt camp for now. "As songs of Khamoshiyaan' have become popular, I have been offered other films. But I am very loyal to my producers, always have been. They (Mahesh & Mukesh Bhatt) are very senior. They have made more films than my age! Since they have placed their faith in me, I take their counsel. I always seek their advice before thinking of any other scripts. It's an emotional relationship for me. I am also open to work from other films. Perhaps in the next 20 days, you might just hear about another announcement." Gurmeet Chaudhary joins Barun Sobti and Karan Singh Grover in the league of new TV stars imported to the big screen in the last few months.
