Bipasha Basu has undeniably turned out to be the Horror Queen of Bollywood. With most of her successes coming from films of this genre (Read: Raaz, Raaz 3, etc), expectations from her recently released Alone too were sky rocketing. But the film that released on Friday opened to a rather lukewarm response.
The film was expected to earn in the range of Rs 4.5-5 crore to have a decent opening. But the Karan Singh Grover-Bipasha Basu starrer collected in the range of Rs 3-3.50 crore on its first day. Definitely suffering a huge blow from Vikram's I, the horror film also lacked a good word of mouth because of its shoddy treatment and bad plot.
Alone had similar business on Saturday as compared to Friday. It needed growth to to do fair business but the plus was that it did not drop as many sex horror films go that way. The first two day business is as follows.
Friday - 3,35,00,000
Saturday 3,45,00,000.
TOTAL - 6,80,00,000
Box Office figures
The combination of horror and sex has paid off again. Despite released amidst a plethora of over half a dozen films, including three in a Hindi, one high profile Tamil dubbed flick and a couple of Hollywood affairs, it is coming together of Bipasha Basu, Bhushan Patel and Karan Singh Grover that has done the trick for Alone. The film has not just defeated the entire competition by a distance, it has also managed to boast of some good collections, hence giving clear indications that horrex genre has its set of loyal audience.
The signs were right there during promotion itself when the film's online trailer scored record number of views. Later, when the songs started arriving, the expectations only soared further, what with Awara and Katra soaring further heights. Moreover, with Bipasha and Karan showcasing their hot bods in an unabashed and uninhibited manner, it was crystal clear that audience would give it a nod of approval.
This is what happened when despite Shankar's biggest extravaganza till date - I, Prakash Jha's Crazy Cukkad Family and Zayed Khan's Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene being the new releases of the week, it was Alone that reached the finishing line alone. As a matter of fact, it also left last week's release Tevar far behind and is much ahead of Aamir Khan's PK, which is now in its fifth week.
With audience footfalls continuing to see a rise, especially at the single screens, Alone has proven to be dark horse, hence establishing yet again that Bipasha Basu is the lady to go when it comes to making a classy horror film with ample dose of erotica integrated to the narrated. As for director Bhushan Patel, it is a matter of rejoicing as after 1920-Evil Returns and Ragini MMS 2, he is already looking at yet another successful film in his repertoire, hence all set to score a hat trick. Says Bhushan, "I am so glad that the audiences have given my film the best opening. I hope that they like the film and make it a hit, like they did my previous two films.
With an open week lying ahead, this could well turn out to be the case.
Meanwhile, Bipasha adds, "Lot of work goes in finding a film that you want to do, and then making it and then promoting it. Alone has been a very special journey, so a sweet end to it is deserving. I want the film to work and want many people to see it. As for figuring the logic of what works and what does not at the box office, then well, I have no clue."
We couldn't agree more!
