Diljit caught in his own clash

For Diljit Dosanjh, Udta Punjab was meant to be that much- awaited big Bollywood debut. However, it may not be as pleasant a situation as he would have bargained for. Reason? Sequel to his Punjabi hit Sardaarji is now slated for release exactly a week after Udta Punjab. Which means Diljit has quite some trouble lying ahead when it comes to balancing the promotion and priorities between his Hindi debut and Punjabi sojourn.

"Udta Punjab has been delayed for many months and is finally releasing on June 17. Diljit plays a cop in the film, a rather serious one at that. On the other hand, Sardaarji 2 has just been announced for June 24. It is a situation that he would have really wanted to avoid. No actor wants his two films to release even at a two months gap, leave aside just one week. Moreover, Diljit was really excited about his Bollywood debut. However, there is just no breathing space between the two films," says an observer.

On its release last year, Sardaarji broke quite a few records and went on to be a superhit. Hence, the sequel arrives with a lot of anticipation. Its release has been much awaited in Punjab and Delhi NCR. So, at least in Punjab it would be looking at occupying maximum number of screens on its release. That would mean a fight with Udta Punjab that would be entering the second week then. It is going to be a clash like situation and Diljit's fans too are expected to be divided.

"It has to be seen whether they would pick up both films gladly or make a choice. Either way, Diljit would lose out on some volume of audience for sure. That's a totally avoidable situation as loyalities do get divided," a trade expert adds.
