After his recent stint with the Pro Kabaddi League where his team Jaipur Pink Panthers ended up being the winners of the debut season, Abhishek Bachchan is planning to start a separate sports company. He has proved to be a good sports entrepreneur with the recent Indian Soccer League where he is the owner of the Chennai Franchise and the actor, obviously is keen to explore the possibilities that lie ahead.
We met Abhishek recently and this is what he had to say when we asked him about his sudden interest in investing in sports leagues. " Well my main reason for doing it is because I want to be part of the football revolution in India. I want to be part of the clan that is making a difference with football in India.
The ultimate goal is have a team playing for India in the World Cup. That's not going to happen overnight. These things take time so that's why I got involved with ISL. To add to it, I love football and it's a great high to be able to work for the game. There is a huge amount of sporting talent in India and it is about time they are given their due.
These leagues are only going to bring out even more ( fresh) talent," said Abhishek.
Abhishek has also often mentioned about how much he respects and looks upto his co- star and his senior, actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Which is also perhaps explains how it was probably SRK's encouragement that pushed him to the idea of exploring an option with a full grown sports company.
Recently, when we were talking about sports and team management with Shah Rukh and he told us how Abhishek was learning the ropes on how to manage and successfully run a sports company.
SRK said, " I was telling Abhishek that he should come and sit in the office and he has been sitting with Venky sir ( CEO - Kolkata Knight Riders and Red Chillies) to learn to create a sports company."
