This is a story that should wait until Sanjay is dead...eulogize him all you want after he's gone...but with him still sitting in JAIL...this is just not the right time.
I feel making a film on SD is not a bad idea. But I dont think there is a need to make a film on his whole life till now. like from birth till manyata.. that is very silly... Biopics in india fail by making it from start to end.. I feel they should focus on only PART of his life which is full of dramatic stories... maybe leave it open for future installments depending on the reception it gets..
But biopics don't really get made in installments...it's not a franchise like a superhero movie...cuz that person's life is already fully KNOWN having been in the public eye...and the audience doesn't generally have the patience to sit and watch the whole sordid saga in installments...Generally the script chooses specific moments to highlight from the person's life...which is what I'm guessing Hirani and his team will be doing here...they will probably focus on the earlier drugs/TADA/marriages bits more than the Manyata phase...the Manyata phase at the most might be an epilogue of sorts.Hirani has a touch with highlighting emotional aspects of relationships too so I have a feeling the whole script will be built around Sanjay's complicated relationship with his father Sunil Dutt...that was probably the most poignant aspect of his life.
I agree on installments.. I just threw that in just like that.. I dont really want a trilogy of sorts on sanjay dutt 😆😆
Basically i meant... they shouldnt feel the need to cover all marriages and everything into one film and spoil it..
His relationship with his parents is very intersting.. even nargis...it will make for good story...
i hope they show him misguided rather than a victim... they will show him in sympathetic light is a given unfortunately
Yes, his relationship with his parents has been the driving force for most of his actions in life I think...and it will make for a compelling story if they build the script around that...losing his mother at that early age and then always having a complex relationship with his father has no doubt contributed to his misguided nature.I think they won't dwell on the marriages too much...maybe the first one at the most cuz he lost her to cancer too and he had a daughter from that marriage...I think the one with Rhea Pillai might just get glossed over.I also think it will be misguided more than full on victim...but then Hirani deffo has a personal bias when it comes to Sanjay so it will somehow reflect in the film despite his best intentions I think...It would be good if they focus more on the fallouts of each situation rather than trying to JUSTIFY Sanjay's pov on all the things from the TADA incident to the drugs...like how it affected his relationship with his father, his family...there is plenty of good emotional drama to portray there.
Agreed. I believe nargis over indulgence, pampering was one of the factors in turning him into a spoilt brat... hiding his wrong doings from his father... in that jeena isi ka naam hai show i think he said... even when his mom was critical also he couldnt resist doing drugs instead of being with her...
his early life will translate well to screen... his relatonship with sunil dutt is not overexposed.. so it will be interesting to watch that...
And completely agree with that last paragraph.. that is what i always wanted them to do... rather than wanting to show TRUTH or some such thing..
Yes, he was pampered and spoilt by Nargis and Sunil was a strict father so he was obviously closer to Nargis...to then lose her all of a sudden totally unraveled him very early in life...Looks like they won't be apologetic about his use of drugs if Sanjay anyways himself has admitted to how hopelessly addicted he was.His relationship with Sunil is actually probably the only reason I'd really even want to watch this movie...I LOVED their bits in the first Munnabhai movie...really touching...but where on earth will they find an actor to match Sunil Dutt's AURA? Just the way he was...it's not a typical father character...the strictness in him, the INTEGRITY in him and how bit by bit his respect was eroded by his son's actions but he still managed to keep going somehow...I don't want the typical Boman Irani type of casting for this role...it should be a FINE actor playing Sunil. The most crucial casting will be for Sanjay's family...his father, Nargis, his sisters...they need to get that right...and this will be such a hyped project that every second person will be running after Hirani to cast them...let's hope he can keep things in PERSPECTIVE as he makes this movie.
