Which "India" are you talking about that they were all part of India to begin with? British India? Independent India? Or before British?

Why don't you look up the history of why Hindi was not declared a national language, was not made completely compulsory, and why English was made into an official language. But oh, right you still are denying and refusing to believe the fact that Hindi is not the national language.

Anyway, I have no intention of getting into it with trolling comments. I replied once because I know it's a belief which is carried by many others. No intention of continuing.

On first glance, Sonam comes across as very vain for this statement, but if she was brought up with exposure to English as her main language, speaks and expresses herself most articulately in it and most importantly the language she thinks in, the argument can be made English is her mother tongue despite being brought up in India.

The above is scenario of having an Indian mother tongue and the ability to speak, read and write in different levels of expertise, but thinking and speaking primarily in English is my story and though I do not live in India, it is the story of many of my cousins who were brought up in and live in urban areas of India and have traveled abroad frequently.

As the recipient of criticism by various aunties about my accent, ability to speak and so on, I have nothing but sympathy for anyone who gets criticized on language 😆
