Disney, never a stranger to princesses, crowns another as it ventures further into Bollywood with Shashanka Ghosh's romantic confection, "Khoobsurat," a variation on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1980 film, "Khoobsoorat." And the studio's specialty proves a pretty good fit.
Mili Chakravarty (Sonam Kapoor) is a high-energy, middle-class and somewhat daffy physiotherapist for a New Delhi cricket team when she is hired by an aristocratic family near Jaipur to rehabilitate its patriarch (Aamir Raza Hussain), who's been using a wheelchair for years. His son, Vikram (the heavy-lidded Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Afzal Khan), a shrewd businessman, is not only engaged to a woman of his economic station but is also monitored by his imperious, upper-crust mother (Ratna Pathak Shah). The brash, often clumsy Mili, in her mixed-pattern ensembles, descends on their estate like a tornado, bumping into statuary, dancing with the servants and winning hearts, especially Vikram's.
Anne Hathaway made a splash in Disney's "The Princess Diaries," and the rangy Ms. Kapoor (who descends from a Bollywood dynasty) shares some of her early incandescence, along with a Julia Roberts-like smile. (Mr. Khan wisely underplays against her supernova, never trying to eclipse her.)
Bollywood films have appropriated Hollywood genres and imagery for years, but Mr. Ghosh, using a pleasing pastel palette, deftly achieves a particularly Disney-like polish. And he avoids making-of-a-royal pitfalls: Ms. Kapoor's character never abandons her humor for refinement. Twice, Mili says that she was raised to speak up for herself. Not a bad characteristic for a future Rajput princess.

Take a bow Shashanka Ghosh, Rhea Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Fawad Khan and Saurab Malhotra. What epicness you have created. In fact something beyond my expectations. Don't get me wrong, I was DYING to watch Khoobsurat with my girls but I didn't know it was going to be THAT good.

Milli is a physiotherapist, hired to help Rajasthan royal Shekhar Rathore played by Aamir Raza. Rani Nirmala Ratna and Vikram expect a quiet, normal Dr. who will obey the rules and regulations of the Royality. Quite the opposite, the Royalty is in for a colourful surprise. Instead comes a burst of energy in the house bringing positivity and normality!
Sonam Kapoor has given her best performance till date. I've never really thought of her has an amazing actress but I am glad she proved me wrong when I watched this. She was carefree, no over acting, this intelligent, geeky yet clumsy and full of life character seemed that this was her. We've known of Fawad Khan ever since the popular Pakistani drama serial Humsafar. I haven't seen it by even his acting was too good. The always on edge, everything has to be on time Prince, (Tum prince ho?) really was some major eye candy. I found myself saying, wow he's so hot' through the film!
I think I wanted everything Sonam had in the movie. From her nerdy glasses, to her scarfs around her neck, to her jewellery to her hair and make up styles, I wanted it all! Oh the thought bubbles that we heard out aloud in the movie were hilarious! Especially the awkward moments between Milli and Viku. Uski aankhen hain, taangein mat dekh!'
Other stand out dialogues were...
Tum Prince ho? Tum bilkul prince nahi lagte'
No Yaar Manju meri maa hai'
Tumhe dekh ke mujhe gande-gande khayal aarahe hai'
and I think the most funniest dialogue has to be Kirron Kher's, Yeh HUM, HUM kya lagaya rakha hai? HUM kahn note hai? Tum aur tumhari fauj???' And by this time I was laughing the loudest in the cinema!
Kudos to Sneha Khanwalkar for bringing awesomeness to the music of this film. It's edgy and gives me an underground music kind of feel. From the party tune of Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai to Engine ki Seeti the drunk song, to Naina, the most beautiful song by Sona Mohapatra!!!!!! To Maa Ka Phone being Milli's ringtone LOL! If you don't know about the music of Khoobsurat, then get to know!
Overall, it's a light entertainer, with lots of laughs. From the casting being perfect to a T, to the locations to the small decoration pieces in the palace, team Khoobsurat have got it all so on point. There is nothing that I can fault in here at all. It made me laugh and smile and dance and want to fall in love all at the same time! Sonam is at her highest ever and the khadoos prince is at his Royal best.
Go watch it!

New Delhi: What happens when a boisterous young physiotherapist goes to live among the royalty of Rajasthan? This premise forms the key theme of Shashanka Ghosh's latest film 'Khoobsurat'.
Produced by Disney, the Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan-starrer is a modern remake of Hrishikesh Mukerjee's film which starred Rekha, Rakesh Roshan, Ashok Kumar and Dina Pathak in key roles. Ghosh, who has critically-acclaimed films such as 'Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II' and 'Quick Gun Murugun' to his credit, ventures into the rom-com genre for the first time.
Will Fawad Khan make his audiences swoon? Will Sonam Kapoor fit the role of India's first Disney girl? Prajakta Hebbar of IBNLive Movies was in the movie hall to find out.

Daawat E Ishq held up pretty well on Monday though collections were low for both. Dawaat E Ishq grossed around 2 crore nett while Khoobsurat was around 1.50 crore nett. The business in four days is 15.50 crore nett for Daawat E Ishq and Khoobsurat is 11.75 crore nett .
Khoobsurat trended the better of the two on Monday as it dropped around 35% while the drop for Daawat E Ishq was 45%. Despite decent Monday figures both films have low overall figures due to the poor initials. the clash has hurt both films as if they were solo they were sure to gett better opening day figures.The business of Khoobsurat could catch up with Daawat E Ishq by the end of the week or beginning of week two.
Now it just remains to be seen which film comes out on top in lifetime figures. Going by the trend the business of Khoobsurat will catch up with Daawat E Ishq but it may be too late as the latter will have a 4-4.50 crore nett advantage in week one and it will be hard for Khoobsurat to make up all the shortfall in week two and thereafter.

Pakistanis have responded enthusiastically to the Fawad Khan-starrer 'Khoobsurat' which has garnered Rs 30 million within the first three days of its screening in the country.
Amjad Rasheed who owns the IMGC entertainment company said the response has been outstanding.
'Khoobsurat' has done extremely well compared to the otherBollywood release 'Dawaat-e-Ishq', starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra.
"No film has ever made Rs 10 million on a non-holiday weekday and this is the first time this has ever happened," he said.
He pointed out the highest grossing films in Pakistan including Sharukh Khan's 'Chennai Express', Salman Khan's 'Kick' and 'Waar' were all released on Eid holidays.
The film, which marks the Bollywood debut of popular Pakistani television star Fawad Khan, was released on 46 screens across the country.
Nadeem Mandviwalla, founder of film distributing company Mandviwalla Entertainment, said 'Khubsoorat' had not only outdone 'Dawaat-e-Ishq' but also Pakistani film 'Dukhtar'.
Khubsoorat' had such a high demand that most of the cinema halls, multiplexes and cineplexes are running extra screenings, he said adding some theatres are running five to six shows a day.
Nadeem said the film's success could be attributed to Fawad Khan who has a star power in the country.đ„ł
