Does Hollywood have rat race?

I have proly watched twice as many HW films in NZ than BW films.. but I never been to a HW forums nor had a stpd converstions with anybody as to whoz no.1 or 2 or 10 in HW?

Are the fans of HW this obsessed with rankings, BO, comparisons, salaries, net worth, youtube views, followers, fans on FB/Twitter etc as much as Indian fans?

When I see IMDb boards, the fans discuss movies and filmmakers more than stars. Whereas Indian cinema board has star wars galore.

I am curious to know state of HW fans in detail.

Most of the highest grossers doesn't have stars. Franchise films avoid stars as they need big budget for CGI and stuff. The most fan fights I see are between filmmaker fans. Like Nolan vs QT etc.

I follow forums boxoffice. Films and directors are bashed more than any actors. Maybe that's due to the nature of the forum.

Must be happening in actor threads, but in film threads like Django, you'd see more people bashing/defending QT than comparing Leo with someone else. I see there's more emphasis towards the quality of the film. Film might collect 1 Bn but half would be bitching about how Rotten Tomatoes rating is low etc.

Its also kind of hard to brag about star power when Life of Pi with newbie collects more than most established stars films. You don't need stars to make big scale films and Fantasy, Sci-fi genre ends up making most money. In BW , if you wanna make a high budget film, you go to Khans or HR. Its a star driven industry.

The biggest grossers of 2014 are Guardians of The Galaxy, Captain America, and The Lego movie 😆
So there is no one or 2 actors ruling the BO, it's usually comics and other franchise films that rule. There is no rat race but the top stars have star powers, when a Tom Cruise film comes out a lot of people go see it because it's a Tom Cruise's film.

So how is the star sytem woks in HW? Is the last biggest film or who gets piad the highest etc..
