Yea, pretty sure. She got replaced after they started shooting. It was a big news at that time. Reason given in media was that they thought Vidya couldn't dance. Film went onto become a huge hit and Meera got to work with Mani Ratnam after that.

Yeah that she was replaced I know but I was wondering if it was the same director who said she doesn't look good enough. I consider him a good director, and no director in his sense will say Meera Jasmine is better looking than Vidya.

Yes, Meera did get a chance with Mani, but then so did Vidya, and funnily enough, opposite Madhavan only.

She's fun to listen to. I love the way she talks, it's so relatable. Her struggles and comments on body image was inspirational. I like that she was ready to reject Parineeta if they made her get a nose job--God! This industry really is so fickle. Thank god she still did it and never ruined her body. She's so freakin' pretty too.
