Wikipedia has its own ever changing lists. Blogs, forums come up with own lists. Some new BO sites come up every few months, no one knows if they are officially by trade analysts or movie buffs with interest in BO.
BOI keeps changing verdicts like weather! A film is hit today, semi hit tomorrow, maybe average next year.
Then if you go to regional cinema sites you find their own films claimed as biggest grossers. The jubilees listed in India and abroad make you feel Bollywood is lagging!
Shouldn't there be proper, regularly updated list of all films' BO? Regional films included?
Many old films can be seen running in theatres even today. I saw Rajinikanth film Baasha running at a theatre in Roorkee last year. Shouldn't collections from reruns also be added to a film's total?
Why no defined verdicts? In past there were only hits, superhits. No sub categories like ATBB etc. Now you have hits, semi hits, commission earner, overflow, average, below average, blockbuster, all time blockbuster, superhit, flop, disaster etc. Not as many films we have as much as variety of verdicts!
Taran types declare film ATBB in tweets but final list shows film as BB. Dubbed versions are also not tracked though they should be.
If the film industry is the largest in world based on volume of films produced then why not have proper clear, unbiased database of BO? With regular updates?
They must procure data from 1930s too. So much money in this industry yet they cannot track old or new data!
Criteria for assigning verdicts and conversion for inflation adjustment should be uniform.
They celebrated 100 years of cinema but couldn't fix up basics. Not a single credible source for cinematic history and stats.
