I know it is hard to generalise. But still, which section of audience encourages worse content in entertainment? Feed dumbness and monotony?
I am not being sexist but honestly my vote goes to female audience. They form majority among TV viewers and content of TV proves what trash females patronise. They don't seem to understand demands of different themes and want drama and romance even if it doesn't fit in anywhere. Keep showing them hours of functions and or gossip over vegetable peeling and they will watch even that.

Males also patronise trash but I feel women have an edge in lapping up inane stuff.

Male filmmakers also attempt far more diverse subjects than female filmmakers.

Female content creators and consumers seem rather limited.

What is your take?

That's generalising but I get your point. The fault is on both sides..if women are fixated with moronic soaps, men are equally on to no-brainers and mindless action.

Good question. For movie-content, I agree that both are to blame:
Women for encouraging senseless movies with :
- superhuman heroes (Yes, Rujnikaant , Salman Khan and all wannabes, I am talking about you),
- who nevertheless find time to combine some pelvic thrusting around trees
- with aerial gymnastics,
- public lectures on morality (You must be joking, right? !The pot calling the...never mind),
- style (Boggles the mind, what style! That of a road-side-romeo?!))
- and what it takes to be a 'MAN' (Barf!)
- and still retaining their 'goodness' (I have no words...)🤢
Women, additionally, for encouraging their young kids to dance er...outdo each other in pelvic thrusts on shows, cultural events, and general every-day 'dancing' around to such movie songs.
(Usually women, more than men, push this)
Men for all of the above, in addition to taking the 'Man' thing too literally and molesting women in the name of 'love', and/or actual violence.😡
As this last directly affects the public (women and men in their family) in everyday life, shaping values, customs, beliefs, it is the more dangerous.
Women, somehow, are able to differentiate between fantasy and reality...mostly.
Not so most men.
I voted men, because this is pervasive.
For TV-content, women win, hands down. They are the major target, and the soaps, while espousing progressive shows actually depict step-by-step instructions on taunting, torturing, and generally putting-down your DILs, while trying to turn them into house-slaves and perfect 'traditional DIL'.
No amount of 'redemption' 🤢 usually shown in the last week or so of the show or track ever makes up for the detailed etching of the brain that went before.
In this, women get the vote.

Mostly the uneducated/low-class audience. They are still the majority.

I don't think you can generalize and pick one group over another. All are at fault equally. Some members above have said and described it well.

We are in a world where women sometimes don't feel comfortable wearing certain clothes on the streets. Then we have some bas***ds (excuse my language) who tend to take advantage. But sometimes women can be wrong too.

I think you can argue this question in many ways but the bottom line is that youth groups, men, and women are all to blame in a certain extent. It's a debatable question for sure and a rather interesting one too!

In most cases, it has been men but I do not wish to generalize.

I think we have all have our own definitions of what constitutes worse content. But I do think context matters. Also, I love, love, love my candy BW movies not rooted in romance reality. But I will never, ever feel comfortable sitting and watching kissing scenes with my parents, ever. Even tame bad BW kissing. Call it hypocrisy, culture, up bringing whatever. Just the way it is.

Yet a nude scene has moved me to tears. I have a group of friends I regularly watch indie movies with. A mixed group in gender and ethnicity. There is a movie called Hunger with Michael Fassbender. It is about an Irish person called Bobby Sands and he goes on a hunger strike. In the end you see his naked, sketal body. There is nothing erotic or sexual about it. Fassbender actually lost weight for the role and it is such a powerful, stunning moment on film. Was it necessary ? Absolutely to me. It is not meant to titilate, but make a statement and it does without many words.

I roll my eyes at things like playboy, SI calender, item songs and so on and consider certain things exploitation. But I am unwilling to draw a line in the sand and say certain things are wrong or bad. Context absolutely matters. As for blame, both male and female, young and old. I am going to say as long as we are living, breathing people we will respond to things in different ways, that make people cringe while the same thing could bring immense umm..joy to others.

For TV, women . Not all, but almost all.
For movies, the men, Not all but almost all, and little blames goes to some women too.

I find women less receptive to different content compared to men. A female is less likely to have any different film in her list of favorites. I think Aamir as a star is a good example here. He had considerable female fan following in his QSQT-Dil phase but since Lagaan he has increasingly had a shrunk female fanbase. The women seem to have liked mainly Fanaa.
Regarding those pelvic thrusts and crazy heroism passed off as masculinity, females seem to endorse it as well. They themselves dance to item songs in real life and never find it cheap.

And we know how Indian TV went for a toss ever since surveys revealed women watched TV more and serials began to be made for them.

Men seem more likely to give chance to diverse content compared to women who seem to prefer familiarity.
