but rekha, watch her mujras in muqaddar ka sikandar , suhaag and umrao jaan.
i also loved meena kumari's work in pakeezah. but i heard when she passed away sujaata completed her work. i don't know if sujaata also done some mujras for pakeezah.

Though Rekha is not a professional dancer but she is a very good kathak dancer & that's why she is d best when come to mujra's & mujra's are only part of kathak. But still rekha manages to perform all typs of dances who can forget kais paheli from parineeta & a seducing dance with akshay kumar from khiladiyon ka khiladi.

Another actress, not sure if she is counted among the best classically trained dancer/actresses, but this is Revathy (who plays Alia's mother in Two states) from a little known tamil film called 'Vaidehi Kathirunthal'

Apologies OP for turning the thread into a fest of classic dance videos from movies 😳

I have no knowledge of the dance. 😆😆 I thought that was South Indian. I thought classical was well without all that headgear, what Aish-Madhuri danced to in Dola Re Dola Re.

I don't like whatever thay danced to in Chennai Express. With the big 'crowns'.

A tight slap to you if you thought what they did in CE was anything but Bharatanatyam...infact in the movie everyone was so confused whether it was based in Tamil Nadu or Kerala..that they did not even think once whether Kathakali actually belonged to Tamil Nadu or not !!😡

Bharatanatyam is the most beautiful dance of India !! 😊You should definitely watch some videos of Shobana(I have seen her dancing live and it was just MAGIC !! ) or Hema Malini or Sudha Chandran.

One of my favorite films of his called Salangai Oli in Tami and Sagara Sangamam in Telugu.

A song from the film

A classic scene where he corrects/demonstrates the same song in Bharanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathakali.

Madhuri and Aish hands down are the best b/c they not only excelled in classical forms but they tried western forms and hip hop and what not and did justice to it. So elegant, graceful and expressionful. Not many today have the whole package.

I'm also a big fan of Vjantimala. She is the inspiration for all true classical dancers like Hema Malini and Madhuri are fans of her.

I also like Padmini Kolapure and Meenaksi Sheshadri. Madhu had her moments too. They WERE a lot of classically trained actresses in the past. I feel like it's a dieing art b/c I hardly see any classical dances in BW and none of the recent heroines have the same level of grace and elegance as all the names mentioned above.
