Ranbir doesn't enter star mode: Imtiaz Ali

Mumbai: Imtiaz Ali who is all set to kick-start the shoot of Tamasha, (earlier titled Window Seat), is excited about working with the film's lead actors, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor. And since he has worked with both Dippy and RK in the past, (for Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar respectively), Imtiaz tells us he has lots to look forward to. "When I work with Ranbir, I don't see him enter a star mode at all. He approaches a film purely as an actor. He enjoys what he does in front of the camera and I feel that his entire approach towards acting is unadulterated. We saw that in Rockstar, and the premise of Tamasha encourages that too," says Imtiaz who has collaborated once again with Sajid Nadiadwala after Highway.
The director who is known for taking long sabbaticals has started off rather early with Tamasha. Reason? "In fact I always want to make a movie quickly, but sometimes it takes time. You can never have the heart to push a child out before it is ready to be delivered. This is the reason I don't regret my films arriving after long gaps. The only thing that I think about is that when people watch the film, they should like it."
Be it Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, or Highway, Imtiaz has changed gears in terms of presentation. Still there's something that speaks of a film as "essentially Imtiaz Ali". What is it that sets him apart? "I just go ahead and make a film by telling a story I want to. Honestly, I am not trying to repeat myself or feel stressed about reinventing myself. I can see the work of other directors and still say that his style is the same or has changed. But it is difficult for me to comment on my own work, because I don't do anything deliberately. Now if I ask you to do an interview or write an article by being quintessentially you', can you do that?" he quips.
