Neil Nitin Mukesh is excited about his upcoming project with Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. He speaks about love, life, films and more. Excerpts from the chat:
What's keeping you busy?
It's important for every man to take that little bit of time off to sit down, re-evaluate things, sharpen his axe, get back into the field and then cut off what he wants to. Right now I'm just focussing on how I can hone my skills and better myself.
What projects are you working on right now?
I'm wrapping up some pending work, which will take another 10 days. After that I'll take a short break, and then get back into action. I will be shooting for Soorajji's (Barjatya) Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo with Salman Khan, and a Tamil film directed by Murugadoss with Vijay. I am also doing Ishqeria with Richa Chadda.
Tell us about your role in Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo...
I'm playing Salman's younger brother. It's a very interesting character, very layered, and that's what attracted me to it. I'm really happy to be working with stalwarts like Soorajji and Salman bhai.
You have done intense roles in most of your films. How come a family drama now?
It's important for every actor to change the perception that the audience has of him. This film is that opportunity for me.
Any actress you dream of working with?
By the grace of God, I have worked with most of the top heroines. In the current lot, I admire Shraddha's (Kapoor) work. I like the vulnerability on her face. She's very pretty and has all that it takes to be a Hindi film heroine. I have also been a fan of Deepika. From the time of Lafangey Parindey, I have seen that she works really hard. It's no wonder she's at the position she is right now.
Are you seeing someone?
No. Find me someone, please. I'm really hunting. All my friends are married and their wives get upset when I force them for a boys' night out. I'm praying that I come across somebody nice who loves me.
So, that someone special can be from the industry?
I haven't decided. That stupid cupid has to strike na?
What's your definition of love?
Love is happiness. You just want to wake up every morning and see her face, hold her hands. You want her to be there when you are upset, and be there for her when she's feeling low. Irrespective of all the highs and lows, love is about being there for each other.
One actress you would like to be marooned on an island with?
Only one? It has to be Deepika. She looks like a mermaid herself. She's so pretty.
An unbreakable fashion rule that one can't afford to ignore?
You just can't wear glares at night. I can't understand why celebs wear glares to award functions. It's an accessory meant for the day and outdoors and should be worn only then.
Who is the most stylish man in Bollywood?
Salman Khan. He's the ultimate style icon. He's the reason behind us dieting and working out. He's the reason why men started wearing tighter jeans. He made men comfortable in taking off their shirts.
Any message for your Follo-ers?
It has been quite a struggle for me, but I'm proud of the kind of films I do. I hope that you love and support me the way you have done all this while. I am working hard and I hope I'll make you proud.
